Has FRACTIONAL become the new buzz word? đŸ€”
(I had a client ask me the meaning of fractional recently, so I thought I’d clarify.
You’re welcome :)

The role has become more popular in the last few years, with Fractional CMO’s, CFO’s, COO’s etc. It has also, to some extent become the rebrand of ‘outsourced’

Technically, there is a difference. A fractional role is someone who works part-time within the business in a senior role, e.g. a Fractional CMO might work 1 or 2 days a week, attend leadership meetings, develop strategies and manage the marketing function. It could also mean an outsourced marketing consultant who works with you occasionally.

Increasing, I’m seeing ‘fractional’ is also being used to describe an external consultant or team providing ongoing support. So fractional is partly a positioning term.

Here’s the breakdown from a marketing perspective:-

Outsourced - you hand a function to an external provider

Consultant - you bring in expertise/advice for a defined need/ period

Agency - an external team delivers a defined range of services

Fractional - a senior person takes ongoing responsibility for part of an internal role

Interim - someone temporarily fills a role that would normally be an employee

'Outsourcing' gets a bit of a bad rap because it sounds external and transactional, rather than fractional which implies part of the team. However, that’s not the case, an outsourced supplier or collaborator can very much be an extension of your internal team.

PS At Sidedoor, we can provide a consultancy service, fractional, outsourced or agency services, depending on the project 😉

Marketing starts with brand.

Before you get into the design, the campaigns, the content or the sales tools, you need to be clear on what your brand stands for, where the growth opportunities are and what you want to be known for.

A solid brand strategy become the benchmark for everything you do... your visual identity, your narrative, your content and every stage of the brand experience.

And now, with AI increasingly influencing how people discover and consider brands, having a clear, consistent story matters. Your brand needs to be understood by both people and the platforms helping them find you.

Get the brand thinking right first. Everything else follows.

Is there anything more frustrating than a 404 page?

We all know websites break sometimes. But when you’re clicking through—especially ready to buy—and hit an error? That’s not a small glitch, it’s a dead end ⚠

I was browsing a “premium” accommodation site recently (purely for research
obviously), and the experience didn’t match the promise:
- broken pages / links going nowhere
- messy layout / low quality imagery
- dodgy branding
- poor user experience
For a brand positioned as high-end, it felt
 anything but.

Today’s consumers have zero patience for poor digital experiences. If your website isn’t fast, seamless, and considered, they won’t stick around to figure it out.Getting traffic is only half the job.
If the experience doesn’t deliver, they’ll find someone else who does.
Want your brand and website to reflect the quality of your business(and actually convert)?

That’s where we come in.

Values aren’t a campaign — they’re operational.

They create emotional connection, trust, and a sense of alignment that goes beyond price or product. The brands that stand out are the ones that have made values a core part of how they show up consistently, and importantly, have backed them up with action over time rather than treating them as ad content.
e.g.
Brands like Who Gives A Crap, built around sustainability and social impact, shows how purpose can sit at the centre of both product and business model.

The Body Shop embeds ethical sourcing, cruelty-free products, and fair trade into its identity.
Patagonia uses environmental activism not as marketing, but as a defining part of who they are.

The key to incorporating values into your brand is authenticity, relevance and commitment. Values need to part of the brand ethos and adopted by the whole team.

BRAND CLARITY - WHAT IS IT AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Clarity defines how well you understand your brand’s purpose and the problem you solve. When that’s clear, your marketing cuts through the noise, connects with the right people, and clearly shows what sets you apart.

We talk to our clients about this every day and it must be the start of the process BEFORE you create marketing collateral, website etc

These are some of the key questions we ask and clarify in our BRAND WORKSHOPS-
- What problem do you solve?
- What does your brand stand for?
- what do you deliver?
- Whats is your brand personality? Tone, language
- What are the key messages for each product, service or audience group?

Are you clear on all of these and is your team on the same page?
