"The introduction of Payapps has made it a more transparent and attractive environment for supply chain partners to work with us."

That's Ben Buchanan at Glencar, talking about what's changed for their subcontractors since moving to Payapps.

Glencar delivers new build, fit-out, refurbishment and civil engineering projects across the UK and Ireland. With 350+ people and a long list of subcontractors and specialist trades, that's a lot of payment applications every month.

They used to arrive by email and spreadsheet. With that many trades involved, errors could slip through, deadlines were put at risk and finance couldn't easily see what was coming.

The solution? Glencar set up one standard process to support its growth, including in Ireland. Now:

■ Every site follows the same templates and steps
■ Applications, approvals and payment status sit in one place
■ Finance sees applications as soon as they're submitted

And subcontractors? They log on, see where their application stands and check what's been certified.

The result: a monthly task that took up to two weeks now takes one to two days. Often just one.

Month-end in construction finance isn't a date. It's a marathon that starts early and finishes late.

Valuations to check. Variations to reconcile. Payment applications to certify, all landing at once while next month's work is already underway.

Do it across spreadsheets and email and something always slips. A figure that doesn't match. A notice sent a day late. A subcontractor ringing to ask where their money is.

Payapps brings the whole cycle into one place. Every application for payment, every valuation, every variation, tracked and time-stamped so your team can see status at a glance.

Same deadline. A lot less scramble.

85% of subcontractors agree on something contractors should probably hear.

Clear and consistent payment schedules give them greater confidence in a contractor's payment process.

That's important because our research also found payment experience can influence who subcontractors work with – and what they charge.

So there's another way to look at applications for payment. Rather than treating them simply as an administrative necessity, could a better payment experience become part of your commercial advantage?

That's the question at the heart of our new UK research report - ‘Construction applications for payment: Pain point or competitive advantage?’

An F1 simulator. A test track. And a room full of people who talk about payment applications for a living.

That was our summer get-together with construction industry leaders at Mercedes-Benz World. We flipped the usual running order this year: thrills first, serious stuff after lunch.

Delegates started in the simulator, going wheel-to-wheel around a mock Belgian Grand Prix. A few held their own against virtual Verstappens and Hamiltons. Then came the real thing: laps on the track with a Mercedes-Benz instructor riding sh***un.

Once the adrenaline wore off, we moved indoors for the part that actually shapes our roadmap. The Payapps team gave a first look at what's landing on the platform across Q3 and Q4 2026. We also previewed some new research into the biggest pain points around payment applications, straight from the people who deal with them day to day. Full findings land this autumn.

The day wrapped up with a briefing on the macroeconomic issues facing the industry and an open Q&A on how the platform works in practice.

Good company, honest conversations and a few competitive lap times. That's what 'together' looks like at Payapps.

Data Centre Construction in the UK: Why Fast, Fair Payment Processes Matter More Than Ever

The data centre boom isn't slowing down, and construction is feeling it.

Ireland is now one of Europe's biggest data centre markets, and the UK has named data centres as being critical national infrastructure. Hyperscale builds are landing faster than the supply chain can comfortably absorb.

These projects run on compressed programmes and dozens of subcontractor packages at once. When a payment application stalls, the programme feels it. When a variation goes missing, a dispute follows.

Payapps keeps the money moving at the same pace as the build. Every application for payment visible, every variation logged, every certification tracked.

Big pipeline, tight timelines and no room for payment admin to be the thing that holds it up.

68% - a statistic commercial teams should pay attention to.

That's the proportion of subcontractors in our new UK research who say they've increased their rates or added risk margin because of slow or unreliable payments.

And 84% say a contractor's payment reputation influences their decision to bid for or price future work.

So payment friction doesn't necessarily stay within the finance department.

It can find its way into tender prices, subcontractor relationships and the pool of businesses willing to work with you.

Our new research looks at applications for payment from the subcontractor's perspective – and asks what the findings mean for contractors.

What do subcontractors really think about the payment application process – and why should contractors care?

Our latest research into the subcontractor payment experience reveals the pressures behind applications for payment: time-consuming admin, poor visibility, disputes, and slow or unpredictable payments.

For contractors, your supply chain's payment experience can have a direct impact on commercial and finance teams, increasing administrative workload and risk – while influencing supply-chain relationships, subcontractor pricing and even whether firms choose to bid for future work.

Join our 45-minute webinar today at 1pm as we explore the latest research and discuss how getting the payment experience right could become a competitive advantage.

New shoes, new bags, fresh pencil cases. Up and down the country, parents have done the back-to-school shop and kids braced for a new year of learning.

Everyone else is getting set up for the months ahead, so what about your commercial processes?

For construction finance and commercial teams, early September is a natural moment to take stock. The workload never really lets up, but there's a solid run of projects between now and the Christmas wind-down. Programmes are moving, valuations are stacking, and month-ends keep coming. The more organised you are now, the smoother that stretch will feel.

So if subcontractor payment applications are still being juggled across spreadsheets and email threads, this is a good moment to change that. A cloud based platform for applications, certifications, variations and retention means:

✅ One source of truth, not ten versions of a spreadsheet
✅ Real-time visibility across every project
✅ Fewer disputes, faster approvals and cash flowing where it should

The kids have their kit ready for the year ahead. Worth making sure your commercial processes are too?
