Victoria’s Monash Freeway is trialling reduced speed for trucks along a 10km stretch of road in an effort to reduce accidents and increase safety.

The trial has trucks’ speed limited to 90km/h with the hope that “reducing the speed of trucks will create greater distances between cars and trucks to reduce tailgating and allow cars to navigate more safely around trucks, reducing the likelihood of rear end and sideswipe crashes.”

“There has been a reduction in road trauma within the heavy vehicle sector, but the overall road toll is increasing and we need a co-ordinated national approach,” Darren Chester, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.
