it’s not about you!!

The need to pursue outcomes instead of outputs has seeped into the mainstream. We seem to be in agreement that when it comes to progress and impact, understanding the difference we make by what we do is more valuable than just counting the number of different things we produce.

What doesn’t get talked about as often is where does a business owner go to define the difference we make?

The truth is, as the leader or founder of your business, you 100% should contribute to answering this question. I know I do.

Your value isn’t what you produce; it’s what the humans you serve can do, achieve, or become because of your product or service.

Thus your outcomes should, at least in part (if not entirely), be reflective of what success looks like for them. It’s part of translating your purpose, and especially your vision, into reality.

The process I use to help clients answer these important questions is broadly (or loosely) known as brand strategy.

If you’re curious to see exactly what’s involved in creating a brand strategy and what the final outcome looks like then come along to this free presentation.

Founders - If you’re serious about growing an outstanding business, I think you’ll agree if you have the ability to ‘convince buyers why they should choose your service or product over the competition’ it will go along way to helping you get closer to your dream.

For most businesses, unless you’re the next Uber, the key to answering that question lies in a number of things your business does. These include things like:

• Embracing an overarching Purpose.

• Having deep insights into you customers needs, wants and desires.

• Using those insights to identifying a point of difference that truly matters to them.

• Having a customer-focused culture driven by values your team embrace.

• Having the ability to innovate in new and valued ways.

•Developing an image and marketing that makes you potential buyer think “hey, this brand really gets me.”

The above are unfortunately not the first things most business owners think about when they want to scale. More often than not it’s other things like management systems, sales processes, advertising campaigns and efficiency drives etc etc etc.

If you think about it, this puts the cart before the horse.
What value are better systems and sales processes if you’re not clearly offering far better value than your competitors?

Why waste time and money on advertising if your message doesn’t help you stand apart because it’s the same as everyone else in your market?

If you would like to learn how to convince buyers why they should choose your service or product over the competition make sure you don’t miss my free live webinar: “How to take a quantum leap….and outsmart, out manoeuvre & outperform your competition.”

Most etailers are not selling their own products, but rather, they are resellers, merchants selling other peoples products, and therefore they put priority on defining niche segments. These are based on what their audience is searching for and what they are planning to do with these products, rather than building a brand personality.

The problem for general or niche stores like these, is that the consumer is fickle, with changing interest, and desires. In this merchant-consumer relationship the consumer has all the power and they are unlikely to be loyal to you.

In order to stop chasing customers and scale up beyond a few 1000 sales per month, you need customers to come to you and stay with you. To achieve this you need to define a brand personality, that your customers want to engage with and trust. This personality is usually based upon a brand archetype or a combination of archetypes.

Uncover your brands true personality and leave a lasting impression in your buyers’ minds using this Archetype questionnaire : https://plan2brand.com/whats-your-brands-archetype/

Understand what archetypes are and how they influence brands in leaving lasting impressions in buyers' minds. Get explanations of each of the 12 archetypes from strategy to talent including examples of people, fictional characters, videos & more...

I have a question for everyone.

What do you ALREADY do today in your business that could be turned into your strategy?

Why should you think about this?

Well I always recommend to my clients to start tactical and then move to strategy. Tactical is connected to day to day reality and you can always tweak to fit the need.

Take Domino for example. Domino had a focus on home delivery as a tactic instead of dining in. Eventually, they decided to turn delivery into their point of difference. Becoming the fastest at delivery turned out to be their strategy to differentiate from other pizza retailers.

FedEx - having the ability to deliver documents overnight before 10 am in a cluttered courier industry gave them a corporate niche market. This tactical approach turned to their overall strategy.

Tactical is key to a great strategy. Join me in my first Live Q& A - this Friday -

There are two realities every business owner faces today:

- Almost every business has more competition than at any other time in history.

- And so it goes, our prospects and customer have more choice than ever.

Pack a pandemic into the mix and strap on.

It’s the perfect storm that’s leaving many business owners struggling to keep ahead.

In the main, those that are doing well all have one thing in common; a clear and meaningful point of difference.

Pretty much the Holy Grail of marketing.

Creating a brand is different to running a business. It has a lot to do with the mix of foundational elements like purpose, values and promise that guide the ship.

As well as the cut through messages that are only possible if you do have a point of difference.

In an age of clutter, noise and abundant choice, rising above the competition is tough, but not impossible.

If you’ve thought about developing a unifying strategic plan I have a FREE information session that unpacks exactly what a brand strategy is and how it will help you grow your business to the next level faster.
