It was a wonderful evening bringing together our award recipients, their families and friends, and members of our academic community. We were proud to recognise not only outstanding academic achievement, but also a new category: the Student Awards for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

National Reconciliation Week is held from 27 May to 3 June each year. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

Today the Monash community gathered to mark National Sorry Day – a time to pause and reflect on the profound harm caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities, now known as the Stolen Generations.

The key message of National Reconciliation Week this year – “All In” – calls on every Australian to support reconciliation through both intention and action. It’s a powerful reminder that reconciliation is not passive; it requires all of us to engage, to listen deeply and to contribute to meaningful change.

National Reconciliation Week continues from Wednesday 27 May until Wednesday 3 June. This important period offers our staff, students and broader community an opportunity to deepen understanding of our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to reflect on the role each of us can play in advancing reconciliation.
