Five members of our Faculty were recognised as finalists in the 2026 Women of Colour in STEM Awards, with Dr Hashini Gunatilake named winner of the PhD Scholar Award.

Our finalists were recognised across research, mentoring, innovation and academic achievement — reflecting the breadth of expertise and leadership across our Faculty.

PhD candidate Joy Bhowmik has been working with fishing communities on Bangladesh’s Kutubdia Island to understand how people find, share and assess information – and what helps them navigate the online world safely.
That research helped shape Coastal Connect, a community-led digital literacy initiative built around local knowledge, trusted people and a shared learning hub.
