Time and again I have said smart TVs are a bad idea. I dont own one. My 12 year old Kogan non-smart can do everything a smart TV can and much more, Can you simply scroll through and pick a movie from a list or put a DVD in and watch it? I can Netflix, Youtube, 7plus, SBS on demand (yes I'm using them as a verb). If your Smart TV's (STV) wireless reciever dies you cannot pick up streaming services so it will need to be repaired at over $300 because the reciever is on the mainboard. If your wireless receiver dies on your Home theater PC it will cost less than $70 to replace. I built my own home theater PC (HTPC) with Windows 11. I use an air mouse to navigate it. Now the Government is trying to turn Communist by trying to control what you watch on your smart TV. Get a HTPC built and you will never look back. Plus you can watch anything entirely ad free if the person who builds your smart TV shows you how. www.maryboroughpcs.com

Be aware of your laptops AC adaptor as the temperatures have begun to rise in Victoria. They do get hot but are also capable of catching fire in rare instances. I have had a rash of dead chargers (AC adaptors) lately. If you arent using your laptop turn it off at the wall. some desktops have an external AC adaptor as well. If its feeling hot thats OK but keep an eye on it. A lot of appliances have AC adaptors, Modems, computer speakers etc some dont get hot at all.

AVG and Avast are both from Prague. Although strictly speaking the Czechs do not support Russia in its war on the Ukraine its probably not a good idea to support it. The built-in antivirus system in Windows is far superior and free. Talk to me about re-instating Defender.

As the owner of Maryborough PCs and the only TV technician (I'm pretty sure) In Maryborough and surrounds I am the agent for Hisense, TCL and lots of other brands. Last week the head of a company that offers extended warranty work for all the retailers like Harvey Norman, etc asked me if I would (could) please do their extended warranty for the surrounding areas and just this afternoon I was contacted by the former head of service agents Hisense and now the head of service agents for TCL and was asked if I could now cover Bendigo as one of the major TV/electronics places has just closed down. This is all well and good but its getting beyond me as I'm 63 and recovered from the big 'C' at the start of Covid (thats why you will see me with a mask on at the stupidmarket) - It would be great to see some young guys coming up and showing an interest in these fields and as such I am now looking for someone probably over 25 with a car drivers licence and minimum year 11 - Good with electronics would be great but not essential, think of it as an Intern. I WILL be offering some payment but obviously it would be commensurate on ability. The person may even take over my business in a few years. Excellent english speaking and reading/writing will also be necessary as there is a lot of paperwork involved. If anyone knows someone who may be interested please inbox me.

Is your laptop hard drive almost full? You dont want to go through the expense of a larger drive? If you rarely use your DVD/cd drive you can have a second hard drive fitted to that bay. Newer laptops come with space to add an SSD (M.2). Or if your laptop is dead slow chances are (if it was a relatively cheap laptop) you can make it super quick by installing a modern SSD (no moving parts. You have options!
