🇦🇺 THE RTX 5080 WATER-COOLED BUILD IS FINISHED. 💧

After dismantling the GPU, preparing the PCB, installing the thermal pads and water block, and putting everything back together — it's finally time to put it into the machine.

But we're not finished yet.

Before handing the PC back to the customer, the loop goes through leak testing and extended testing to make sure everything is running as it should.

This is the finished result. 👀

And yes — this was all built and tested here in Australia. 🇦🇺

RTX 5080 Water Block Installation — Part 2 💧

Once the original cooler is removed and the PCB is prepared, the next step is getting the thermal interface right.

In this stage, I’m applying phase-change thermal paste and installing the thermal pads before the water block goes on.

Every contact point matters. The goal is to make sure the GPU core, memory and other components have the correct thermal transfer into the water block.

This is real custom GPU water-cooling work being done here in Australia. 🇦🇺

This RTX 5080 is about to lose its air cooler. 👀🇦🇺

This is the beginning of a customer's GPU water-block installation.

Before the card can become part of a custom water-cooling loop, the original cooler needs to come off and the PCB needs to be prepared.

In this video, I'm opening the water block and starting the disassembly.

Would you put a dirty GPU straight under water? 👀

Before this RTX 5080 goes under water, the PCB needs to be clean and ready.

This is the part of the process most people never see — preparing a brand-new GPU for a custom water-cooling loop.

Dirty PCB → cleaning → clean PCB.

And yes, this is a brand-new, expensive graphics card. 😅

Time to take apart a brand-new RTX 5080. 😬

This customer came to me after their existing 7900 XTX started randomly black-screening.

They decided to move to an RTX 5080 — but before this GPU could become part of their custom water-cooled system, I had one very important job:

Take it apart.

And yes… taking apart a brand-new GPU that costs this much is still a little nerve-racking. 😂

This is the part most people never get to see — what actually happens behind the scenes before a GPU becomes part of a custom loop.

The replacement has arrived. 👀

After draining the existing loop, it was time to bring in the new RTX 5080.

But this isn't going straight into the water loop just yet.

Before a brand-new GPU gets dismantled and fitted with a water block, I want to know that it works perfectly in its original form.

So the first step is simple:

Unbox it.
Install it.
Test it.

Only once I'm happy that everything is working as it should will I take the factory cooler off and begin the water-block conversion.

And that's where this upgrade gets interesting... 🔧💧

Step 1: Draining the loop. 💧

How should we drain a complex loop?

Before anything could be removed from this machine, the custom water-cooling loop had to be drained safely.

With a complex loop like this, it isn't always as simple as opening a drain valve and letting the coolant out. I first had to work out the best points to attach the drain hoses and carefully drain the system.

Once the loop was empty, the real teardown could begin. 🔧

Next up: removing the existing GPU and preparing the system for the RTX 5080 upgrade. 👀

**I've been a little quiet for the past week... and this is why. 👀**

A customer brought in a custom water-cooled PC for a major GPU upgrade, and what initially sounded straightforward quickly turned into a much bigger project.

Their existing RX 7900 XTX had been randomly black-screening, so the plan was to replace it with an RTX 5080.

But this new GPU wasn't simply going straight into the PC.

Before it could become part of the custom loop, there was testing to do, a complete teardown ahead, a water block to install and the entire system to put back together.

And that's exactly what I've been working on. 🔧💧

Over the next few posts, I'll take you through the whole process — from the original problem, to testing the RTX 5080, tearing it down, installing the water block and finally revealing the completed machine.
