Given all of the ongoing/recent Micro$haft destruction of their OS/Office/Outlook/Teams/Calendar & etc...it just might be time for you to escape to: Linux Mint Mate.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/fixes-or-workarounds-for-recent-issues-in-classic-outlook-for-windows-ecf61305-f84f-4e13-bb73-95a214ac1230

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5773034/how-to-fix-the-syncing-of-teams-and-outlook-calend

Keep in mind-- Micro$haft is a company that knifed in the back-- every, single company in existence in the 80's, only to trot out this absolute BS. And THEN, force their customers to a "subscription" service. Never forget: subscription = CONSCRIPTION.

Nearly ALL computers, can successfully run Mate-- no data-scraping/"telemetry", not susceptible to M$ viruses, it simply works-- and works VERY well. I've been running Linux Mint Mate since 2009. My personal, everyday PC is a desktop I assembled for myself, in 2014! So fast, so clean. Perfection.

I've now installed Mint Mate + "tweaked it" for the perfect OWNER-experience. Yes, you actually are treated as the owner of your computer, not just a product to be harvested aka M$haft/Crapple.

PS: I should add that 90% of the people I installed Mint for are 70+ years old, and every, single one has been absolutely thrilled.

The operating system is OSS (free, but I encourage donations), and I charge $150 to install and optimize.

Hit me up if you're interested. You'll find Mint is MORE familiar than the current offerings out there.

Best to you!

If I create any meetings in Teams it is not being reflected in Outlook calendar

I just got off of the phone with yet another email hostage-- someone who, through no fault of their own, has been locked out of a years-old acct. because of failure of IT/tech/salespeople to fully explain how to protect their accounts properly when they're first set up.

Actually, it's salespeople who often do the most damage by either not understanding what THEY'RE doing when implementing accounts for customers, or they "sort of" understand but leave out the important things, such as a secondary email account to cover if you lose your password or phone. Or, not telling the customer that they cannot keep trying different passwords. This generally leads to a loss of the account, and for many people, that's devastating.

This is more than, "buyer beware", this is an ever-shifting, highly-confusing landscape that requires due-diligence, but, that's difficult to do when you don't know the "language" so don't even know what to ask.

BTW, I get plenty of younger folks caught in the same net, so it's not always the elderly.

So, if π’šπ’π’– happen to get caught out-- you know where to find me. πŸ˜‰

April 2nd. Go to an ATM & withdraw any amount today. Anything.

The fight to stop banks & politicians holding your money hostage counts on a backlash!

Do this tomorrow (2 Apr) & then sign anything that floats past to strengthen paper currency, no matter what crooked govt or bank says otherwise.

"The Right To Repair Movement"

Yes, there is now a movement across the world to stop these large corporations (starting with Apple) from blocking or preventing third-party repair people from repairing their products. The biggest issue isn't what most people would assume it is: small shops take the repair money from the hands of the manufacturer. But, that's NOT the issue at all. Nor is the claim by Apple and others that "third-party repairers aren't qualified"-- which is not only a lie but also borders on libel/defamation at the least. One of the videos linked below shows the US gov't dept. which oversees these third-party repairers, states that there is no evidence to support Apple's claims.

No, the true issue isn't that Apple or these various entities "care" about you or your purchase after you leave with it-- what they're trying to do is to stop ANY repair. In other words, without third-party repairers, these companies can deliberately make/sell their planned-obsolescence items and then simply refuse to repair anything after any arbitrary time they wish. And we all know that will be as short a timeframe as possible.

In other words, you could have purchased a top-of-the-line computer two years ago which can easily last 5-8 years (or more). Yet if these companies (like Apple) get their way, they can simply refuse to repair that unit which not only forces you to buy another (how convenient for Apple) but also lands MORE poisonous trash into the overflowing landfills we already cannot handle!

The next time you have a chance to sign petitions which SUPPORT THE RIGHT TO REPAIR, please sign!!! Current legal battles are showing that money is being used to "finesse" laws in the favour of these big corporations.

Here are a couple of videos that talk about how destructive this lie from Apple and others actually is and how incredibly criminal Apple is especially:

Happy holidays to everyone!

2020 has been a very strange year. Here's hoping for a better 2021.

Stay safe, wash hands, wear masks when required, practice social distancing. Remember that the virus can be carried by someone with no symptoms at all. Don't be that person! Stay home. πŸ‘

Wishing a happy & healthy New Year to you all.

Corona virus (COVID-19) Survival

Checklist For Home Technology

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is already causing drastic changes in how we live and work. For many people, it will mean more demand on their home networks if schools close or employers institute remote work policies to prevent the spread of the virus.

Here are several tips that can help you to prepare:

Check Reliability of Router Connections

If you’re working from home all day, any problems with router connections are going to cause more frustration. Check connections and also perform a speed test to see if your router is giving you the speed your plan notes by visiting speedtest.net.

Clean Your Devices

You want to pay special attention to prevent the spread of an infection like the Coronavirus. Disinfectant wipes are okay, or spray/wipe nonabrasive or alcohol-based (70% isopropyl) disinfectant while the device is powered down and unplugged.

Make Sure You Have the Work Files You Need

Its smart now to ensure that if you do have to work from home in the near future, that you have the file access you’ll need. Test file/business app access from home in advance.

Check Your Remote IT Support Options

If you’re at home, trying to prevent becoming infected by the Coronavirus, Arctech Computing is here for you! Ask about our remote support options. No one needs to enter your home and you have complete control over the repair session. All you need is an active internet connection and a phone so we can speak. :)

For all of my past & future clients!:

Don't forget, I offer remote support for any computer issues you may have.

Now, more than ever, connection to government services as well as connection to family will be online only, for the most part. Keep your computer running in order to retain this access.

Ring me, and we'll set up a time which is convenient for you. All you need is a working internet connection. I'm not an overseas call centre, I'm located in Dudley Park. :)

I do hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas/holiday and are now fully recovered!

If you happened to receive a new computer from Santa (or want to show some love to your "not-new" unit), be sure to have it optimised properly.

Computer makers are now in the business of advertising-- it's why the computers are the prices they are. Yours, will come stuffed with useless programs, demo-programs which beg money within days, fragmented, and with everything turned on and running in the background.

This means that when YOU go to use it, a prime bit of it's computing power has already been allocated to other things you're not even aware of. This results in slow opening of windows and programs, as well-as an over-all feeling of sluggishness when in use.

For a flat-fee of $75, using tools specifically designed for this, I'll not only adjust your computer to make it snappy performing in every way, I'll also verify your anti-virus is working properly, uninstall unnecessary/demo programs completely, delete the thousands of temporary files hidden throughout your system, then defragment the drive for optimum performance. You will easily be able to see the difference afterwards.

If I don't hear from you before, have a very happy & wonderful new year!

Merry Christmas & happiest of holidays for whatever joyous occasion you observe. Here's to a much better 2019!

For those who receive a computer this year, please keep in mind that they are NEVER optimised from the factory. What you get is a computer chock-full of useless programs and advertising (demo programs which pester you and then expire unless you buy it). Why not have it set up properly?

For $75, I will remove the unwanted programs, delete the junk files created during the factory set-up, and then optimise system settings so that the computer runs at top speed. You will be able to easily see the difference, before and after.

I'm also happy to answer any questions you might have about your new PC while I work.

Again, best to you and yours and I hope to hear from you soon!
