We are pleased to announce that we have completed our acquisition of Kirou I.T., a managed service provider based in Balcatta, WA, servicing small and medium business clients. The Kirou IT team, including founder Michael Kirou, and its clients will be integrated into activIT systems over the coming months.

Our MD, Steve Edwards, commented: “This is our first corporate acquisition and I couldn’t be more excited for all involved, as the introduction of new team members, clients, and skills will make for a very energized start to 2023. Michael Kirou and I are very alike in our approach to customer service and technology, and have been on similar paths since the start of our respective companies.”

The clients previously under Kirou IT’s management will gain access to a larger team of IT professionals, and additional services such as our Cyber security as a Service offerings.

Michael Kirou, owner of Kirou IT, added: “I am excited for my clients and my team to be able to leverage the larger team at activIT systems, which will bring more capacity and technical experience across all facets of IT and cyber security. The activIT team has been welcoming, very down to Earth, and are amazingly talented. I am looking forward to being part of their team!”

activIT systems will be responsible for service delivery to the Kirou IT clients from 3rd January 2023 onwards, and the acquisition will increase the fleet of endpoints under its management by approximately 15%. Integration is expected to be completed by mid March 2023, with the Kirou IT team joining us as full time employees from 3rd January 2023.

We've a great opportunity for someone looking to start their career in the IT field the world famous activIT helpdesk team in our Perth office, whether it be a student wanting to get some experience, a uni grad ready to start their career, or maybe someone ready for a career change.

Ben Armstrong joined us mid 2021 whilst completing his cyber security degree, and had this to say about his experience:

"I joined activIT during the last stretch of my Bachelor's degree in Cyber Security at Edith Cowan University (ECU). Working on the helpdesk team here has taught me an incredible amount of theoretical knowledge, and hands-on experience rolling out a wide range of systems to clients. It has also allowed me to gain an understanding of the industry as a whole, how clients react to cyber threats, and the potential push-back from procedures put in place."

We'd love to hear from you or your colleagues, and encourage people from all walks of life to apply. Visit https://www.aitsys.com.au/careers for more information on us, our culture. We'd happily send you the dollars we'd otherwise spend on Seek if you introduce us to a successful candidate!

We're looking to place someone in the role to start in January, interviewing throughout December.

Our Office Manager Marisa knocked over five years with us last week, and we're super fortunate to have her on our team. She's been instrumental in helping to navigate through all the adventures and challenges of the past few years.

When asked how she feels about the five-year milestone, she said, "I’m really proud and appreciative to work for a company that always encourages growth and offers countless opportunities to help us achieve our individual goals, is so supportive and flexible."

Not one for the spotlight (until we post about it online 😂), Marisa's hard work often goes unseen, but everyone feels the effect of it. Thanks Marisa, you're a champ! 🏆

We thought it was really sweet that NOSHU entrusted us to educate their entire team with our Cyber Security Awareness Training over the last few months.

We exchanged some recipes too! Win win! Take one Choc Berry Trifle recipe from their website, combine with some Proper Password Management, bake for 90 minutes, and you have a recipe for super tasty cyber security success.

If you’re keen for a win-win at your workplace, book 5 or more people into our cyber security awareness workshops - register at http://ow.ly/Nycz50LEjil - and we’ll send you some awesome Noshu goodies to snack on while learning. We have two remaining sessions for the year!

P.S. this post is not sponsored; the Noshu team were lovely to work with and sent us a thank-you box which we promptly devoured in record time, the goodies we will send you are ones we've paid for. :)

Hi friends, last week Apple released a number of patches for iOS and Mac OS systems to fix some nasty security holes that are being actively exploited by hackers.

While the technical data about the issue is quite limited - the wider IT community is inferring that the issue must be substantial enough to warrant immediate fix and patching. Even the new iOS 16 is vulnerable. More info here: https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2022/09/12/apple-patches-a-zero-day-hole-even-in-the-brand-new-ios-16/

With such advisories we typically wait until there are some technical details so we can assess them, but in this case, we deem it better to advise you to update those phones, tablets, and Apple Mac systems now rather than wait for the details to emerge.

Five updates, one upgrade, plus two zero-days. Patch your Macs, iPhones and iPads as soon as you can (again)…

We're excited for our workmates, and very proud we've put ourselves into a position to make this a reality - we've just finished our first NINE DAY FORTNIGHT as part of a three month trial to get better work/life balance, better mental health, and take a chance to be better all around. No drop in salary, no extra time to make up, and a long weekend every two weeks.

Read how it came to be here; https://www.aitsys.com.au/9-day-fortnights/

We'd love to hear what you think about this - is a full five day work week old fashioned, or could you not possibly cram 10 days work into 9?

This post is about our 9 day fortnight trial that we’re running from August 8th, for 12 weeks. It is a narrative of how it came to be and why we’re giving it...

A bit more of a regular fortnight for us, here are some of the jobs our team has handled..

- Recycled approximately 175kg of IT equipment so it doesn’t end up in landfill
- Investigated four potential business-email-compromise situations (all clear), two were neatly disguised credential harvest attempts, two were third party compromise and the attackers intercepted mail, attempting to deliver malware laden purchase orders (none of our clients hit)
- Helped clients register their new .au domain’s to match their .com.au’s
- Helped one of our clients regain their multifactor authentication codes on a new mobile phone
- Deployed phishing simulator campaigns to test the cyber awareness of staff
- Provided consultation and education to a client regarding Microsoft365 email archiving

Every day is different and unique! Ben and Jett in our helpdesk (pictured) are two of four people you'll speak to when you ring for support.

3 years and counting!!!

David is a top-notch IT Systems Engineer, and we’re lucky to be celebrating his third year working with us.

David actually used to work with us all the way back in 2012. He took a hiatus in 2017, but now he’s back to handle complex project work for our clients.

Great work David, we’re proud to have you on the team!

Being a managed service provider, we are sometimes a jack of all trades - but throughout June much of our activity was related to cyber attacks, threats, and vulnerabilities. In June we..

- Assessed a series of really clever spam and phish email attacks, targeting the accounts/finance team at a client
- Laid the smack down on a virus threat that NEARLY spread through a network
- Rolled out our own fast-tracked mitigation to the Follina vulnerability (CVE-2022-30190) across our clients after the vulnerability was weaponised; our rollout was done on 2nd June onwards, but official patch was not forthcoming from Microsoft until 14th June(!!)
- Developed a fleet-wide rollout to deal with the HP UEFI boot vulnerabilities (CVE-2021-3808 and CVE-2021-3809) via our RMM
.and that's on top of the every day work we take care of, like preparing laptops for deployment in this pic with Ben😀👍
