Two witnesses. Two completely different stories. What do you do?

You don’t pick your favourite. You don’t automatically believe the senior person. And you certainly don’t take a vote.

You test both accounts against independent evidence. Documents, timelines, electronic records, other witnesses, and contemporaneous notes can help establish which account is supported by the available evidence.

Remember, confidence doesn’t guarantee accuracy, and credibility alone doesn’t establish reliability.

An investigator’s job isn’t to choose the most convincing story. It’s to test the evidence, examine inconsistencies, and reach defensible findings.

Before you finalise an investigation report, ask yourself: Can I defend every major finding if someone challenges it?
