Outback-Tech / Brett Richardson Remote monitoring and control - Water Management I hope this goes someway to explaining what I do when I go missing for a week or two.

Outback Tech is a small business involved in the installation and promotion of useful technology in but not limited to the Agricultural industry. When I am asked what I do for a living, people usually glaze over when I tell them I am involved in remote monitoring and control in Agriculture.

One of the 6 portable riser automation units that are moved between sites. Saves the cost for automating every outlet. The gateway unit is installed at the pump site for remote control of the pump, connection to the VSD and monitoring flow and communicates to the roving units via radio.

Fitting a portable bay outlet control unit, which opens and closes the outlet using the existing winch. These units can be easily moved and relocated to other outlets for a portable solution. From the web site, users can see if the outlets are fully open or closed and raise SMS alerts on faults.

This unit is a good way to automate valves and Irrigation Riser outlets.

With the wet weather I’ve been testing and setting up a remote controlled electric ball valve for an existing system at Wilcannia and another tank level kit and a Lorentz PS2-100 solar pump to float in a ground tank @ Clare.
The ball valve can be automated to turn on and off based on tank level, line pressure, time or manual operation via the web. In this case it’s manual to connect a section of the property should a bore pump fail or just get behind on supply.

Yesterday I installed my first Satellite tank level kit with a rain gauge . No more radio surveys, trying to work out how long the 3G system will still work for or whether 4G will reach out where the Telstra desk top maps claim it exists. Install this unit with a clear view of the heavens and turn it on. Automation of Pumps or valves can be programed locally, and a low-cost short haul radio can be attached to signal a pump to start or stop based on pressure, level etc at another site.

I have not updated this page in a while, this week I headed west again to install another Lorentz PS2-1800 solar pump next to a ground tank, upgrade some Remote monitoring equipment and burn a heap of diesel at a cost that might feed a small nation.

Last week I installed my third Lorentz PS2-100 solar pump. These are the babies of the family and proving to be a great little pump. One is connected to an Ezy Switch SMS controller delivering total litres pumped every 24 hours. I have one choked back to 200 litres per hour and one in a dam pumping 11000 + litres day.
