Is your email secure?

If someone gains access to your email account, they could steal your sensitive information, change passwords for your other accounts, or even send emails pretending to be you.

Cybercriminals will sometimes target emails being sent to and from businesses. This could result in fraudulent activity, with cybercriminals intercepting financial transactions such as invoices. Cybercriminals will use email to abuse trust in business processes to scam victims out of money or goods. This type of email attack is often referred to as business email compromise (BEC).

If you think your email account has already been compromised, you can take the following steps to review your security and remove the attacker: https://www.cyber.gov.au/email-security/what-to-do

It’s Cyber Security Awareness Month! To promote this event, each week during the month of October we will be posting a weekly reminder of things you can do and tools you can use to maximise the protection of your digital information.

This weeks theme is Have you been hacked?

The Australian Cyber Security Centre has launched the ‘Have you been hacked?’ tool. This tool will help you assess if you’ve been hacked by guiding you through a range of scenarios that will advise you on how to best respond to the situation. Scenarios include ransomeware attacks, malware threats, email compromise and identity theft, as well as phishing and fake website scams.

The tool is simple to use and includes typical warning signs, scenario explain actions and easy-to-follow steps on how to remediate the situation.

You can access the tool here: https://www.cyber.gov.au/have-you-been-hacked

For those of you that bank with ING (or any bank for that matter), there are a few scams doing the rounds again. Just a word of caution.

🚨 Scam Alert 🚨
We’re aware of a number of fake SMS currently circulating which claim to be from ING. The SMS is telling people that there was an attempted transaction and if not authorised, to click on a suspicious link. Just so you know, we’d never send you a link asking you to enter your details claiming there’s been a potential unauthorised attempted transaction. We’re working on putting a stop to this SMS. Here’s how you can tell if you’ve received a fake security text:

1. You’ve been sent a link that doesn’t look genuine or doesn’t include ing.com.au (like the one in the pictured SMS)
2. The SMS text asks you to click the link, then asks you for your personal or banking info (we’d never ask you to provide these details via a link in an unsolicited text or email)
3. Do not log onto your Internet banking via a link in a SMS. Instead, use your mobile app or go to our website.

If you think it’s suspicious, please ignore and delete the message when you get it.
