🔧 Tech Tip 🔧

Your "free" VPN might be selling your bandwidth 🛜

Some free VPN apps make money by turning your device into a residential proxy. This means letting other people route their internet traffic through your connection.

Their traffic gets tagged with your IP address. If it's abused, your connection is what gets flagged or blocked, and other devices on your network could be exposed too.

Before installing a free VPN, check how the provider actually makes money and what permissions the app asks for. For business devices, stick to VPNs approved by your business or IT provider — look for a paid subscription model and a clear no-logs policy, not a free app with vague terms.

Not sure what's actually running on your devices? Not sure if you need a VPN service? Get in touch and we'll help you find out.

13th October 2026 is the end of support date for Office 2021 📆

After that date, Word, Excel and Outlook will continue to open, but Microsoft will
stop providing security updates, bug fixes and technical support.

Because the software keeps working, it can remain on company computers for
months or years after support ends.

Any new security problems found in Office 2021 may be left unfixed.

Not sure whether Office 2021 is still in use? Ask us to check, and we'll talk you
through the replacement options.

🛠️ From the Workbench

This Brother printer arrived with horrible print quality, so Josh got to work!

After a full strip-down, a new printhead and some careful calibration, it’s back together and printing as it should. ✅

We don’t just work on computers. We also repair printers and are an authorised warranty agent for Brother and Epson.

Tech Tip Tuesday

We get asked for Cat7 and Cat8 network cables all the time. The truth is, for most homes and small businesses, they're often unnecessary and can end up costing you more without providing any real benefit.

Here's why:

✅ Cat6 supports speeds up to 10Gbps over typical home and office cable runs. That's 5x faster than even Australia's fastest residential NBN plans.

✅ Most devices only have 1Gbps network ports anyway. Your PC, laptop, gaming console, smart TV, or printer is usually limited by the hardware at each end, not the cable in between.

❌ Cat7 and Cat8 were designed for specialised environments, such as data centres and server rooms, where extremely high-speed connections are used over short distances. In most home and office networks, they won't make your internet or devices any faster.

💡 The bottom line: Your NBN connection is unlikely to max out a Cat6 cable. Save your money and invest it in better networking equipment, a faster router, or improved Wi-Fi coverage instead.

Got a networking or cabling question? Drop into the store or give us a call. We're always happy to help. 📞

🌐 FTTP vs Starlink — which is right for you?

Both are great options for better internet, but they suit different situations. Here's the honest breakdown:

Fibre (FTTP)
✅ Lower latency — better for video calls, gaming, remote work
✅ More consistent speeds, less affected by weather
✅ No hardware/dish to buy or maintain
✅ Often cheaper monthly cost
⏳ Only available at eligible addresses (we can check for you)

Starlink
✅ Works almost anywhere, even where fibre isn't available
✅ Fast to get connected — no waiting on an upgrade
✅ Great for rural properties outside the fibre footprint
⏳ Higher upfront hardware cost
⏳ Can be affected by trees, weather, and dish placement

The short version: If FTTP is available at your address, it's usually the better everyday option — faster, more stable, and no dish to worry about. If you're outside the fibre footprint, Starlink is a great alternative.

Not sure which applies to you? We sell both and can check your address for FTTP eligibility — happy to give you the honest answer either way, not just the one that suits us.

📩 Message us your address or give us a call and we'll find out what's available.

When "someone will get to it eventually" becomes... this.

This is what we walked into at a business network cabinet — years of ad-hoc changes, no labelling, and nobody game to touch it in case something fell over.

Here's the thing: messy cabling isn't just an eyesore. It usually means:
🔌 Nobody actually knows what's plugged into what
🐌 Faults take hours to diagnose instead of minutes
📈 Every future change adds more risk on top of what's already there
🔥 Airflow gets blocked, which shortens the life of your switches

Talk to us about managing your IT and network. We'd love to help sort out your IT gremlins and help your business run efficiently.

We just had this system come through our workshop 😱

This is what happens when a PC doesn't get a clean-out for a few years. That "fan" is basically a dust bunny with delusions of grandeur.

Dust buildup like this isn't just gross — it's a real problem:
🌡️ Traps heat around your CPU and components
🐢 Makes your PC throttle itself to avoid overheating (hello, random slowdowns)
⚡ Can shorten the life of your fans and power supply

If you can't remember the last time your PC had a proper clean-out, it's probably time. We offer full internal cleans and health checks.

📩 Message us, call us, or drop it in-store — we promise not to judge (much 😅).

19/08/2026

Well... they finally showed up! 😅

After what felt like forever, our first shipment of Bambu Lab X2D printers has arrived.

The catch?.... We only received two.

If you've been waiting to upgrade your 3D printing setup or pick up a new hobby, now might be your chance to get your hands on one of the hottest printers on the market.

Send us a message, give us a call, or drop into the store for more information.
