We went to the annual Chamber Games.

We were promised networking....There may have been networking.

Mostly, there was yelling, laughing, questionable sporting ability and a level of competitiveness that probably wasn't necessary. 😂

And honestly?

It was bloody good fun.

One of the things we love about working in a small community is that business isn't just business.

It's people.

It's grabbing a coffee with someone you've known for years.
It's meeting someone new at an event.
It's helping another local business figure something out.
It's cheering people on.
It's occasionally making a complete dick of yourself in the name of "team building". 😂

Thanks to everyone who made the Chamber Games such a hoot.

I built a website.
The client hated it.

And you know what?
That's OK.

The website wasn't broken.
It wasn't badly built.
It wasn't technically wrong.
It was just... too much.

I'd simply over-designed it.

The client wanted something much simpler, but hadn't quite been able to explain what wasn't sitting right.

So Megan got involved.
She asked questions.
She listened.
She worked out what the client was actually trying to achieve.

And then we worked through it together.
The client stuck with us and gave us the opportunity to sort it out.

And that's where Megan and I work so bloody well together.

We bring different strengths to the table, challenge each other when we need to, and work together to get the best possible outcome for our clients.

The result?

The website the client actually wanted.
Not just a website that was technically good.
Not just something we'd designed because we could.
The right website for her business.

Because sometimes the right thing to do isn't desperately trying to defend the first version.
It's listening, adapting and helping the client figure out what they actually need.

We're not a "yes" agency and we're not interested in building something just because we can.

We'd rather have the right solution than wins every project.

For the love of all things digital.

STOP EMAILING US YOUR PASSWORDS. 😂

We've had clients send passwords in emails.
We've had passwords written in books.
We've had passwords in Excel spreadsheets.
We've had the Excel spreadsheet attached to an email.

And then there's my personal favourite:
"All the passwords are in the book."
"Which book?"
"The blue one."🤦‍♀️

Look, we understand.

You're running a business. You've got approximately 47 tabs open in your brain at any given moment and remembering where you put the Facebook password isn't exactly top of the list.

But please don't email us a spreadsheet containing:

Facebook
Google
Website
Bank
Email
+ Everything Else
..and then call it a day. 😂

If you've got passwords scattered across notebooks, spreadsheets, emails and the back of receipts...

Maybe today's the day to sort that tangle out.

This should have taken about 5 minutes.

It didn't.

A client had a change in staff and needed to update who had access to their Facebook business assets.

Simple, right?
Except... Facebook 🙄🥴

After a bit of digging, clicking, swearing (mostly internally 😇) and figuring out what was actually going on...

Sorted.

This is one of those jobs that doesn't necessarily sound very exciting.
We're not launching a shiny new website.
We're not creating a massive Google Ads campaign.
We're just making sure the right people have access to the right bloody things.

But this is exactly the sort of stuff we 😍.

Someone gets stuck.

We figure out why.

We fix it.

Done.

And honestly, we'd much rather you call us while it's a small problem than wait until it's become an absolute nightmare.

Heads up! This might p**s some people off...

But if you're starting a business, please don't automatically assume that building your own website will be cheaper.

We've lost count of the number of people who have started with:
"Wix is only $X a month."
"Shopify is easy."
"I'll just build it myself."

And six months later they've spent hours and hours wrestling with a website, subscriptions, plugins, templates, apps and things they don't understand...
..and then they come to us to fix it.

Sometimes the DIY option absolutely IS the right option. We're absolutely not anti-DIY.
But there's a big difference between:

"I can build a website."
and
"I know how to build the right website for my business."

If you're confident, have the time and actually enjoy that stuff?
Go for it!!!

If you hate technology, have no idea what you're doing and have already spent three weekends swearing at your laptop...

Maybe call us first. 😂

Megan & I have been thinking lately about what Kapow Interactive actually is.

We're not just "the website people".
We're not just "the SEO people".
We're not just "the Google Ads people".
And we're 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 not the people who are going to tell you that you need to be on TikTok (because apparently that's what businesses are doing now. 😂)

A surprisingly large part of our job is fixing 💩.

👍Facebook accounts set up the wrong way.
👍Websites that seemed like a good idea at the time.
👍Google Ads accounts that have gone a little rogue.
👍Businesses locked out of their own digital assets.
👍Websites that suddenly need to stop taking orders.
👍Malware.
👍Passwords in Excel spreadsheets attached to emails. 😬
👍Staff leaving and nobody quite knowing who has access to what.

And sometimes...

"I've built this myself and now I have absolutely no idea what I've done."

That's where we come in 🦸‍♀️

We figure out what happened, work out what needs fixing, and sort the bloody thing out.

So perhaps that's what Kapow really is:
The people you call when your digital s**t has hit the fan.
And we're pretty good at it.

Things we wish more Business Owners knew...

You don't need to be on every social media platform.
Honestly.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is business owners feeling like they have to be everywhere.

😁Facebook.
😊Instagram.
🤨TikTok.
😎LinkedIn.
🧐Pinterest.
😅YouTube.
😳Threads...
The list keeps growing.

Before long, you're trying to create content for six different platforms... and burning yourself out in the process.

Here's the truth.
It's far better to do one platform really well than six platforms poorly.
Choose the platform where 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 customers actually spend their time.

Show up consistently.
Create content that helps people.
Start conversations.
Build trust.

Once you've nailed that, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 think about expanding.

Because a strong presence on one platform will almost always outperform a weak presence on five.

Social media isn't about being everywhere.
It's about being in the right place, consistently.

Can I let you in on a little secret?
You don't have to.
You don't apologise to your accountant because you don't understand tax law.
You don't apologise to your mechanic because you don't know how to rebuild an engine.
So please don't ever apologise because digital marketing, websites or SEO feel confusing.

That's our job.

One of the best parts of what we do is taking something that feels overwhelming and explaining it in plain English.
No jargon.
No eye rolls.
No making you feel silly for asking questions.
In fact, some of the best meetings we've had have started with...
