The Ink Garden is an independent design studio, operated solely by me, Kristen Harris. Founded on a love of design and fueled by creative necessity, the studio was established in 2016 in pursuit of a more fulfilling family/career balance. With over a decade of graphic design experience within the print industry, stepping out in a freelance capacity after becoming a mother was a natural progression and one I’ve not looked back from. Logo design and business branding is a speciality for The Ink Garden Design Studio with focus on collaborating with like-minded, creative women building businesses with heart. Truly passionate about beautiful aesthetics, I am honest, genuine and a significant perfectionist whose hobbies include binge-watching true crime documentaries (forever to my detriment), weekend market foraging, mint-chip gelato (ice cream is a hobby, yes?) and filling every corner of my home with green, leafy friends.

As a wearer of all hats in my own business, my struggle has long been trusting others to take over where my own skillset finishes. Each new brand is like a wee bebe that needs handling with care and knowing who to trust is not always an easy decision made. That said, Lucy at lucy.c has been one of those people. We’ve worked alongside each other on many a project and she’s my first recommendation for web design to almost every one of my clients. She just gets the way I work - we’re an aesthetic match - and I know she’ll take all my bits and bobs, strategy and direction and create something magic. We worked together on her own brand and my own site a few years back, but earlier this year, she decided it was time for a little refresh. Here I am finally getting around to sharing 🍂

Somehow we’re rapidly approaching the pointy end of this year and I swear it was June only yesterday. 2026 has looked a little different; brought new challenges and business hurdles, but the clients remain top shelf (and there’s still more to come). If you want a designer who’s going to romance over the details; who’ll likely have a somewhat obsessive relationship with your project (when I’m in, I’m in). I’m your gal. Bookings for the rest of this year are limited, so make haste if you’d like to secure one for yourself 🙃

I do love me a fresh mockup 🤩 This is where branding comes to life and takes on a whole world of possibilities. They take clients from ‘Whoa’ to ‘WHOA’, creating excitement and inspiration that feels accessible in the real world. Brand assets become more than individual elements, but puzzle pieces that effortlessly fit together in an intentional way. I do love.

It’s a little slower in the studio this week (as all those with kiddos know) but the project list still slaps. The next few months are back-to-back dream clients and briefs that have me so damn excited. Full glow-ups incoming! Sneaky first look at my time with Nat from Holistic Skin Wisdom You know I’m all for rich, moody, soulful detailing and this project was no exception. Favourite fonts: September edition
Some really swoon-worthy type on my screen this month (I’m developing a bit of an expensive taste when it comes to letterforms these days, so my accountant doesn’t love) while I work my way through an eclectic assortment of clients and briefs. Beauty salon > educational resource > commercial interior designer > mobile coffee van. Don’t make me pick a favourite this month; I cant possibly.

One thing I love, which might be a polarizing opinion, but monochromatic palettes always make my heart sing! Palettes that include two or three shades of the same colour often find their way onto my screen and it always leaves a little contented feeling inside. I work fairly instinctually with colour - it’s always something I’ve just known - and when I look back over my previous work, there’s a lot of monochromatic moments to be found.
This little snippet from my time with Claire was based heavily around a nostalgic warm blue colour palette and it still has me obsessed 🤩

When is white not white? Pretty much always 🤍 Whether it’s crisp and clean, cool blue-based or tinged with a yellow warm glow, white is really never just that. I’ve you’ve ever considered painting your interior walls white, you’ll have a keen understanding of the true scope of this reality 🫠

A version of white exists in almost every palette I create, and that can’t be said for a lot of hues, but it’s all about the undertones; the nuances that make all the difference. Do you have a favorite or are you bold colours all the way?
