The Ink Garden is an independent design studio, operated solely by me, Kristen Harris. Founded on a love of design and fueled by creative necessity, the studio was established in 2016 in pursuit of a more fulfilling family/career balance. With over a decade of graphic design experience within the print industry, stepping out in a freelance capacity after becoming a mother was a natural progression

and one I’ve not looked back from. Logo design and business branding is a speciality for The Ink Garden Design Studio with focus on collaborating with like-minded, creative women building businesses with heart. Truly passionate about beautiful aesthetics, I am honest, genuine and a significant perfectionist whose hobbies include binge-watching true crime documentaries (forever to my detriment), weekend market foraging, mint-chip gelato (ice cream is a hobby, yes?) and filling every corner of my home with green, leafy friends.

Oh hi, yes, hello… it’s me 👋 Please enjoy this photo of yours truly in absence of any real social content which I’ve let slip entirely while immersed in my comprehensive but wildly fulfilling workload.

If you’re new here, I’m Kristen… organised homebody and creative thinker here at The Ink Garden based in picturesque Toowoomba, Australia.

Founded on a love of design and fuelled by creative necessity, the studio was established in pursuit of a more fulfilling family/career balance. With over a decade of graphic design experience within the print industry, stepping out in a freelance capacity after becoming a mother was a natural progression and one I’ve not looked back from. My time and creative space is shared with my husband, two darling daughters, our slightly unhinged doggo and an ever-expanding group of chickens 🐓

Truly passionate about beautiful aesthetics, I am honest, genuine and a significant perfectionist whose hobbies include binge-watching true crime documentaries (forever to my detriment), vintage market foraging (often with camera in hand), mint-chip gelato (ice cream is a hobby, yes?) and navigating the intricacies of slowly updating our century-old home, attempting trades I really have no business trying.

✨ What dream brands are made of ✨

A sneak peek at my time with Court from and when I say she’s a vision, she’s an actual vision.

Court’s work is nothing short of artistry - I could stare all day - plus she’s a genuine ray of sunshine, but when she told me the vision for her branding, I ate it up. Full brand reveal to come, stay tuned.

I posted a poll on my socials late last year and the general response was that you needed more guidance and tips for establishing your own branding. Whether DIY or professionally created, a lot of the foundations are still the same.

Now we’ve already covered logo file types, let’s talk colour profiles. When a branding project is complete, final logo files are released to my clients in two main colour profile options: RGB and CMYK (with details covering Pantone and HEX within their brand guide). On the surface, they might look fairly similar, but their roles are quite important and equally as useful when it comes to functionality within your brand. But what is each one really for?

If you’ve ever tried to professionally print a super-vivid RGB image or a logo with fluro colours and found the final product quite flat and underwhelming but didn’t know why, this post is for you. RGB and CMYK colour profiles have two very differetn purposes and when interchanged, the impact is apparent.

RGB (red, green, blue) is a colour profile for digital images specifically for screen use. It uses combinations of red, green and blue lights to achieve a full spectrum of colours.

CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black/key) is a colour profile for printed materials. It uses a combination of physical inks to acheive a spectrum of colours, often not quite as vivid as RGB screen portrayal.

HEX is a colour profile for achieving web colours. This code comprises six letters and numbers which conveys the amount of red, green and blue.

Scroll through for some basic explanations and examples of each colour profile, and save this post for next time you’re stumped when it comes to which colour mode suits your needs best.

Busy busy behind the scenes with some truly inspiring client briefs on my agenda (can anyone say flower farm 🙈). Concepts out yesterday for this project, with my schedule to follow already stacked with a holistic skin mentor, a beauty salon and an artist. A little breather today and some internal planning tomorrow (socials and my own branding), then pushing forward again with client work next week.

I always pinch myself when it comes to the variety of clients and projects that find their way to me. The fact that they’re all so different keeps me on my toes, ensures my days are never boring and just truly keeps the fire burning brightly.

I have a dream client list which I’ve been so fortunate to check some off of already, but there’s still a few industries and client profiles I’m hoping the universe will send my way. Do any of these sound like you?

A sneaky first look at rebrand and, while choosing favorites is like choosing between children, this project is definitely up there. Court and I had conversed about her rebrand ‘one day’ (and gardening, amongst other things) for *yearsss* so when the stars finally aligned, I knew it was going to be special. European inspiration cues, Court’s incredible (incredible) artistry and one of my favourite palettes to date. All good things.

2026! If this is what the whole year looks like, I’m strapped in. The projects and people I’ve been talking with. Dream. Project briefs: creatively inspired. And me? I’m in love. With it all. If you want a designer who’s going to romance over the details. Who’ll likely have a somewhat obsessive relationship with your project (when I’m in, I’m in). I’m your gal. Bookings are now being taken for May onwards.
