Same shape. Different soul.

No two Pitt & Giblin waveguides come out looking exactly the same.

Cast in bronze using a sand mould, each piece retains marks of the pour — a slightly different grain, a unique catch of light.

Once machined and honed, every waveguide is chemically treated, waxed and polished by hand in our Hobart workshop.

The final stage after assembly is quality control and testing to guarantee performance, before they head out the door.

One of those parts that still looks like it was made by people, not a production line.

Dark bronze patina you can feel.

A special Superwax Mini customer request — solid bronze waveguides put through a custom heat treatment, chemical coating, wax and polishing process. The result is a deeply tactile finish that’s almost impossible not to touch. We love how they look!

The American Oak cabinets are finished with a light brown Japan stain that perfectly complements those rich bronze tones.

Once these beauties pass quality control, they’ll be carefully packed into our custom made crates and sent on their way — landing in Melbourne within a few days.

We’re now proud owners of a Klippel NFS system, the first of its kind in Australia.

It’s a cutting edge scientific instrument that scans a sound source in 3D, and a dream come true. Few manufacturers publish performance data to the level of transparency we do and we’re excited to take this to the next level with the NFS (Near Field Scanner).

Measurement, analysis, and optimisation has always been central to our design development, from small one-off builds to core product. Over the years we have continuously upgraded our analysis workflow, from modelling to measuring and verification, optimisation and quality control. With hundreds if not thousands of measurements across each product, the process has been streamlined but remains more or less long-hand - a time consuming process of interrogation but a huge part of the art. That all changes now with the NFS - a significant investment for any business, let alone one of our scale!

The NFS, in conjunction with the Analyzer 3 and Sound Separation Software will allow us to develop, optimise, and document loudspeaker behaviour to a very high degree of accuracy that is recognised as the gold standard globally. A major advantage of this system is its ability to eliminate the influence of the room on the measurements by removing reflections with a proprietary algorithm.

Our version of loudspeaker design has and always will be a balancing act, a harmony of craft, science, and technology. That’s the art. This doesn’t change that, it just makes it better.

We’re proud to showcase our product and to enable the experience of music.

📌 Reverb exhibition, part of the RISING festival, is hosted at ACMI — Australia’s national museum of screen culture.

The exhibition explores vinyl culture and music’s lasting influence on art, film and social movements.

The Listening Room is an acoustically considered space, with a central playback area and an intimate capacity of 40 people.

Sherry cocktails & vinyl 🍸

When the guys from Caretaker’s Cottage got in touch about their new space, Three Horses, we knew something special was on the cards and started a discussion about a bespoke system just for them.

One idea kept resurfacing throughout the design process: continuing the tradition of putting unapologetically large loudspeakers into intimate hospitality spaces. Some of our favourite venues share this quality — a sense that the sound system is part of the architecture, not something hidden away.

The expansive bar demanded loudspeakers with wide horizontal dispersion, and plenty of low frequency performance because we know they like to boogie. The 3-way design we came up with riffs off of the shape of the bar, featuring two 12” low frequency drivers flanking a 10” mid, and a rectangular profiled constant directivity waveguide. Finished in walnut-veneered birch plywood, and powered by 750W of Pascal amplification and DSP.

To fill in the room, we introduced a new product to cover the front and rear zones — an application it was seemingly made for. More on that soon.

Our speakers promote being turned up, but when you run out of output capacity more needs to be added.

We’ve said this before, our speakers don’t require a sub, until you take them to the next level with higher intensities of music playback.
ma requested a high output sub system to take his pair of Superwax Mini’s to the next level. By taking some load off of the Mini’s in the bass department (using a custom filter) their ability to play loud really becomes apparent.

These custom 18-inch reflex subwoofers have extremely large high flow bass ports and modern high excursion bass drivers, wrapped in a cabinet cut from the same cloth as the core lineup. The double flared rear port arrangement allow for the driver to breathe free of unwanted turbulence and distortion, allowing for clean, effortless reproduction at very lowest of frequencies, even when the driver is on tilt.

Earlier this year we promised we’d share a bit more about what’s happening at Pitt & Giblin. Each of these projects deserves its own blog post (in progress) but for now here’s the highlights.

We’ve been working with local and international clients on a range of projects from commercial fit outs to bespoke designs.

Making interesting things keeps the progression moving and hones our craft.

The goal is to concentrate on scaling our core lineup as well as branching out on projects that keep us engaged in design and the shared enjoyment of music.
