The haze clip we shared earlier was filmed on a phone in Singapore, but that was only the beginning of its journey.

The footage was uploaded while the trip was still happening. The production was being followed from Brisbane, the files were stored in the cloud in the United States, and the edit began in Manila.

There was no need to wait for the footage to come home. By the time it appeared on the page, the project had already passed through four different locations.

They may be thousands of kilometres apart, but for this project, they felt surprisingly close.

We filmed this view across Singapore and noticed the haze hanging over the road and skyline.

The smoke has travelled across from fires in Borneo. That is not new here, although it does not seem as thick as we have seen before.

The phone captured the traffic and nearby buildings clearly, but the skyline became softer in the distance. It was a useful little test of how the camera handles conditions that are not ideal.

We’ll show where this footage went next and how it is being worked on across different locations.

We are in Singapore, and the phone camera is already getting plenty of use.

There is something happening around nearly every corner, but recording it is only part of the challenge. We still need to decide what is worth showing and how to capture enough of the moment for it to make sense later.

We have started collecting the footage. For now, we will leave you with a small preview.

A room can look ideal for filming until the air conditioning starts, people begin walking past or the light changes halfway through the day.

That does not always mean finding another location. It may simply change where we place the camera, how we manage the sound or what equipment we bring.

A little planning beforehand can make the filming day much easier.

A construction site can look very different once we see it from above.

From the ground, we usually see one section at a time. The aerial view brings those sections together, showing how the structures sit within the development, where the access points are and how work is progressing across the site.

Before we plan the flight, we talk with the engineer or project team about what they need to review. It might be the overall layout, progress in a particular area or a clear visual record they can refer to later.

The drone gives us the perspective. Understanding what the team needs to see is what makes the imagery useful.

Funny thing about aerial work: the best-looking shot isn’t always the most useful one.

Sometimes, it’s the fairly ordinary photo that someone comes back to later because they need to check one part of the site. Other times, it’s the wider view that helps them understand where everything sits.

That’s why we don’t only capture the obvious angles while we’re there. We take the extra shots too, because they may be the ones someone needs later.

If an image helps someone find what they’re looking for, then it was worth taking.

The camera sees more than you think. Sometimes a little too much.

There’s always plenty happening when you’re filming. Lighting, sound, framing, movement, and all those little things that are easy to miss when you’re concentrating on everything else. Once you press record though, the camera tends to pick them up too.

That’s why taking a little time to check the setup before filming can save a lot of fixing afterwards.

Sometimes the easiest edit is simply not having to fix the mistake in the first place.

What a busy day at the Multicultural Jobs Expo.

There were already people waiting outside before the doors opened, and by the time things got underway, the room was full of conversations.

More than 1,500 people came through, with over 80 exhibitors there to meet job seekers. And these weren’t businesses just there to promote themselves. They actually had positions they were looking to fill.

We’ve already heard that one business hired six people from the Expo, and they’re starting work on Monday.

We spent most of the day behind the cameras capturing what was happening around the room. It was great to see so many people come through, and even better to hear that some of those conversations have already turned into jobs.

Sometimes you just need to see things from a different angle.

Not everyone involved in a project can be on site at the same time, but they may still need to see what’s happening.

That’s where these views can be useful.

From above, you can see how the site fits together and get a closer look at areas that might not be as easy to see from the ground.

And really, the drone isn’t the important part.

It’s what you come back with.

Something people can look at, share and refer back to when they need it.

Sometimes a different view is all it takes to make things a little clearer.
