What’s the first animal you see in Harry Potter?” Most people say the cat… but it depends what you mean.

In Harry Potter trivia last week, I asked "in the first movie" and many people got a little defensive as they thought it was a cat and my host gave a point to them, this was wrong. That being said, I understand the confusion :). Fight me at a wizarding duel if you disagree haha.

🦉 The Owl – in the first film, an owl on the Privet Drive sign is the first animal on screen, before the cat appears
🐈 The Cat – in the book, the first animal Mr Dursley spots is a tabby cat reading a map
🪄 Neither – that cat is actually Professor McGonagall, an Animagus. Does a witch in disguise count as an animal?

Film, book or loophole, all three can be right. That’s a technicality 😉
