Central Coast Scanners

Central Coast Scanners Scanning the NSW Police is not possible but the Government Radio Network is possible. Listen in on NSW Fire / Rescue, NSW Ambulance Service, RFS and more

The NSW Police Force uses a digitally encrypted radio network making it impossible to listen in on their radio traffic within the Metropolitan Areas of Sydney, Newcastle or Wollongong using a scanner. Some regional Areas within NSW are still running unencrypted radio networks however you will require a DIGITAL scanner to listen. The NSW Government Radio Network run by Motorola, while it is now a fu

ll Digital Service, can be listened to if you have a digital Trucking Scanner and it is correctly programmed. Currently the following NSW Government Services use the GRN to communicate: -
Roads & Marine Service
Fire / Rescue
Ambulance Service
Rural Fire Service
NSW State Emergency Service
Court Sherrifs. To listen to these services radio communications you will need a Digital Trunk Tracking scanner such as : -

Radioshack Pro 96 Handheld
Radioshack Pro 2096 Desktop

Uniden UBCD396 (T or XT) Handheld
Uniden UBCD996 (T or XT) Desktop

There are several other types of scanners available but I have found these the most reliable and ALL can be face or software programmed. Should you need advice on a purchase or need your scanner programmed for you, feel free to send me a message.

I was watching NCIS reruns and found this had been used as a prop, supposedly someone had used it as a transmitter and called for help by dialling 911 in by direct entry and it was picked up on a baby monitor.

Only a few things wrong with this possibility
1 - 911 as a direct entry wouldn’t have made a phone call on a scanner or any radio device unless it had some way of actually being received in a phone exchange

2 - Direct entry is for direct entry of a frequency so it’s trying to listen to 911mHz and no baby monitors transmit in that bandwidth

3 - It’s a uniden 396 scanner painter a s**tty colour of green and has no mic in it at all

Get your s**t together Hollywood, it would have been more believable using an old 27mHz cb handheld with a telescopic aerial.

So if you need a scanner programmed now is your best chance. ($50 per unit)

I still have have 2 X DTS 96 left for sale and 2 X PRO 96

These are the last 4 I have available and are listed on eBay.

The DTS 96 scanners are complete and in the box with 240v charger and battery pack. $350 each

Morning everyone

Within the next month I will be moving off the Central Coast so if you need a scanner programmed and want to bring it to me (currently in Kariong), this is crunch time unless you feel like a drive else you will have to post it to me and I'll post it back to you at your expense express post (extra $40.00)

I still have 2 of the DSE scanners available.

For those asking they will scan RFS, SES, Fire/Rescue, Ambo's and Roads and Marine as they are all on the GRN

For interstate people they will scan the equivalent in Tasmania, Victoria, ACT and South Australia.

Not to sure about Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia you would have to tell me about encryption in your area and I'll let you know.

The page will still remain although it may have a small name change shortly.

People have been asking where to go for NSW GRN info so here's a few links for you that are freely available on the net at http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=6943.

CSV Files you can use to import into your scanner: -

Control Channels: - http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?action=csv&sid=6943&opt=sites
Talk Groups: - http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?action=csv&sid=6943&opt=tg

PDF Files you can print: -
SORTED GRN Control Channels and Talk Group ID's: - http://www.radioreference.com/apps/print/?act=trsdb&sid=6943&opt=all_tg

As you can see it's a lot of information, but it should help the novices out there at least work out what they want to listen to.

The next thing you will need is software.

There are a few options around but most are free and as you would expect just plain crap.

I use the BUTEL software which is free to use in DEMO mode but I suggest you pay for the PRO version and register the software.

it can all be downloaded at http://www.butel.nl/download.html

To ID your personal scanner, click on the US or EU models and look for the picture of your scanner and match the model number up in the description.

If your scanner did not come with a programming lead, now your going to have to search the net for a lead.
If you have to search, do yourself a favour and stay off ebay. They leads are crap and you'll be wasting your money.
Find the manufacturers website and buy direct or ask who their local distributors are.

Sounds simple right?

That part is, now comes the hard part of getting the settings right and that is where most people fail on their first 100 attempts.

So if you have a scanner, some software and a lead that works and will connect to your scanner message me and I'll happily help you out.

If you don't and you don't want to buy the lead, either pay me to program it or go buy the lead and software.

Its pretty much that simple people.

Enjoy the day :P

For those of you looking at the new Uniden Phase II scanners asking yourselves "Are they worth the money?"

Short answer is YES.

I have had a friend bring 1 over and we had a little play with it last night and yes, I can now also program these as well.

But a word of warning to anyone thinking they can just dump an old code plug in them before you go playing around and think they are garbage.

Forget EVERYTHING you knew about trunk trackers and the old Uniden terminology.

They are completely different to what you have been using but the quality is, in my humble opinion, unsurpassed by any other scanner I have seen on the market.
