The Australian Government has today announced a major world-first reform to provide basic universal outdoor mobile coverage almost anywhere in Australia.

Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation (UOMO) will require mobile carriers to provide access to basic mobile voice and SMS across Australia, made possible by innovations in Low Orbit Satellites.

This obligation will provide up to 5.5 million square kilometres of new outdoor mobile coverage across Australia, which will:

• Enable Australians to call Triple Zero from anywhere on the Australian land mass,

• Provide basic outdoor voice and SMS in existing mobile black spots, and;

• improve the availability of mobile signals during disasters and power outages.

Apple has released an urgent iOS and iPadOS update (18.3.1) after discovering a security vulnerability that could allow hackers or law enforcement to bypass passcodes and extract data from locked devices. The flaw, linked to disabling USB Restricted Mode, was reportedly exploited in targeted attacks, prompting Apple’s swift response.
