ACROSS THE WAY: five remote Aboriginal-owned art centres come together in this exhibition.

Artitja Fine Art Gallery presents work from Martumili, Ninuku Arts, Papulankutja Artists, Tjarlirli and Kaltukatjara Art, and Yarliyil Arts, spanning the Pilbara, Kimberley, Western Desert and Ngaanyatjarra Lands.

Different lands, different traditions. One shared connection to Country. Through colour, pattern and form, each centre's artists share their art and knowledge of place.

ACROSS THE WAY brings together art from five remote Aboriginal-owned art centres across the Pilbara, Kimberley, Western Desert and Ngaanyatjarra Lands. The richness and diversity of this contemporary First Nations art celebrate the many ways country is known, experienced and represented.

The Western Australian Coastline has been a constant theme in my art practice, with creative ideas usually expressed through painting, drawing and photography.
This exhibition uses photographic images with a printmaking process to create abstracted artworks using fragmentation and layering. The images included of our older beach houses, signs, people and ‘place’ show many of the elements that make up a life lived by the sea.

In “Place,” I document built landscapes that hold personal significance for me.
These are primarily Fremantle/Walyalup, the Western Australian port town I have called home for the past 50 years. Rottnest/Wadjemup and Dunsborough also feature.
The built environment shapes how we live.
It creates opportunities, sets boundaries, and connects us
to our place in time.
It also acts as a stage for our lives, prompting us to reflect on those who may have occupied these places before us.
