SCAM WARNING

This is an example of a completely fake virus or error that has caused a few of our customers lately to get ripped off. There are many variants of this.

These messages are sent to your computer through websites and email by scammers pretending to be Telstra or Microsoft and they look real, but they are not. When you call the number, a "friendly" person will offer to to remote access your computer to fix it.

Without you knowing they will strip your passwords, identiy information, bank/super/trading accounts and steal your money. Once this money leaves our shores, you will never ever get it back. The whole process can take as little as 15 minutes.
Before calling anyone, check the phone number.

13 20 58 or 02 8870 7510 are the only legit Microsoft support numbers and we all know Telstra will never call you proactively.

PHONE NUMBERS OTHER THAN THE ABOVE ARE FAKE!!

Pass this onto your parents, they are being preyed on heavily by these cockroaches and no law can stop them.

Hack Warning: AnyDesk Remote Access software being used to clean out bank accounts.

PSA for anyone that is being helped by a remote tech using AnyDesk remote access software, there is a vulnerability in older versions that allows remote access without permission. Bank accounts are being cleaned out by this method.

Legit support companies don't use outdated software and this product is often avoided for the number of exploits its had but its not only this software.

If AnyDesk is installed by someone you haven't met personally claiming to help and you see a file called GCAPI.DLL in your Downloads folder, disconnect your internet immediately and get your machine checked.

Small business owners, please take note. Ransomware viruses are very serious and they're targeting you.

Please take a minute to think, if right this second you lost access to all your files forever. How would that impact your business?

We were recently called in a panic from a local small business that was hit by ransomware. It took out all their files and knowledge and 7 computers had to be rebuilt. Cost them about $6000 to recover, 3 weeks of work lost and 3 days down without staff being able to work. Opportunity and productivity loss was much much more than $6k.

They were super lucky, a manual offsite backup was taken 3 weeks before, only thing that saved them from losing everything. They still lost 3 weeks work and family photos from the local computers.

The virus variant infects 1 person, then crawls through all your files and encrypts them, it then moves to other devices and even your old style backups, making them impossible to read or recover without a password that is so long it's basically unhackable.

Pay the ransomer and you get the password, don't pay and you lose the files forever. Very scary.

Sometimes viruses get through regardless of your protection, YOU NEED A DISASTER RECOVERY OPTION. Mostly likely, this process will also improve your business, creating more profit.
