Over 10 years ago, I “designed” this logo 👠✨

WIMAN, Women In Motion Area Network, was started by my boss and mentor (miss you, Eryan! 🫶), and it was my first taste of working in a community not-for-profit. I got to be around powerful business women, build my first WordPress websites, and give my first ever talk at a networking function (Intro to Business Marketing, nervous as anything).

The group had so much fun. We did cocktail parties, brought in guest speakers, high tea’s, Christmas Parties, and movie screenings. All while leaning into eachothers skills and expertise to grow our businesses.

Do I cringe at the glitter and the motivational quotes now? Absolutely. But it truely was a-mazing back in the day. (I mean, when is a group of female entrepreneurs supporting each other NOT amazing 🤷‍♀️)

My point is: EVERYTHING grows and evolves. From your vibe, your business, to your own goals and dreams.

I started out in business management and HR. The more I leant into marketing and design, the more my work grew up, and so did I.

Reminder: ChatGPT is giving your competitors the same strategy it’s giving you x

We’re getting to the point where businesses are asking the same tools the same questions, then wondering why everyone’s marketing is starting to sound suspiciously similar.

The thing is, AI has access to the same public information no matter who’s asking.
Tell it you’re a “fun, energetic beautician looking for a content strategy” and guess what?

It’s telling the beautician down the road the same damn thing.

What it doesn’t have is what YOU bring to it.

The conversations you’ve had with customers. The stuff your team keeps hearing. What you know because you actually do the work.

And importantly, the judgement to know when the AI answer is a bit s**t.

That’s the good stuff.

It’s also why I’m not buying the whole “AI is going to replace everyone” thing just yet.

AI is a bloody good tool.

But the tool isn’t the strategy.

And I reckon the businesses that understand that are going to get a hell of a lot more out of it. 🔥

I think we’ve confused “doing marketing” with “making content”.

And small business owners are paying for it with their time.

Social media absolutely has its place. I make content for businesses for a living, so I’m hardly about to tell you to delete Instagram. 😂

But when time (and money) is tight… there are marketing jobs that deserve your attention before another post does.

🚨🚨🚨Your Google Business Profile is one of them.

Because the person finding you there isn’t someone you’re desperately trying to interrupt.

They’re already looking.

They might have been given your name. They might need exactly what you offer.

And if your Google profile is outdated, unclaimed or looking a little unloved, that’s what they’re using to decide what happens next.

The ridiculous part is that fixing it costs nothing and you can get the important stuff sorted in about an hour.

So I turned the whole process into a free guide you can actually follow.

Here’s the thing about marketing: literally anyone can call themselves a marketer.

There’s no licence. No minimum standard. You can open Canva on Monday and sell marketing services on Tuesday.

Which makes it pretty bloody hard for a business owner to know who actually knows what they’re doing.

That’s one of the reasons my Certified Practising Marketer designation matters so much to me.

The CPM isn’t a course I completed or a certificate I bought. It’s a professional designation through the Australian Marketing Institute that recognises both formal study and substantial, proven experience doing the work.

I had to show the years behind what I do. The progression in my career. The work and results. And have that experience independently backed up.

I’m proud of the qualification, obviously.

But I think it matters more to the businesses that trust me.

Because when you work with Highlight, you’re handing me a piece of something you’ve spent years building.

I might be helping decide how you position it. Where you spend your marketing budget. What your website needs to do. What you should stop wasting money on.

Those decisions deserve more than someone who’s good at making things look nice on Instagram.

And regional businesses shouldn’t have to lower the bar because we’re not sitting in Sydney or Melbourne.

You deserve experienced people around your business too.

That’s what the CPM represents for me.

Not that I know everything.

But when I tell you I know what I’m doing in marketing, you don’t have to just take my word for it. ❤️

Some nights are about the win. This one was pretty special without it. 💜

Friday night was the Deniliquin Business Chamber Excellence Awards, and for the second year running, Highlight Creative was a finalist for Outstanding New Business. 💛

We didn’t take home the win this year, but we were absolutely stoked to be “runner-up”, alongside the very deserving Switched On Mobiles - Deni who took out the category. Huge congratulations to their team. 👏

And honestly, the night itself was just really lovely. 🥰 Dads in town visiting, so I got to take him along as my date. We had a few drinks, a good catch-up and spent the night sharing a table with the brilliant crew from Intereach, who had plenty of celebrating of their own to do. 🥂👏

There’s something pretty special about being in a room full of people who are having a crack at building good businesses and doing good things in our community.

Two years of Highlight. Two years as a finalist in this category. I’m very happy with that. 😍

Congratulations to every finalist and winner on Saturday night, and a big thank you to the Deniliquin Business Chamber for the enormous amount of work that goes into putting a night like this together.

Here’s to another year of doing the work and seeing where it takes us. 💜

This one feels pretty special. 💜

Highlight Creative is a finalist for Outstanding New Business at the Deniliquin Business Chamber Business Excellence Awards for the second year running.

Last year was our first time at the awards, where we were finalists in this same category and I was incredibly lucky to take home Outstanding Young Business Leader.

To be heading back again this year with another 12 months of Highlight behind us feels bloody good.

A lot has happened in that time. We’ve worked with some brilliant businesses across the region and we’ve had the chance to be involved in some really special local projects. 🫶

But I think what means the most is being recognised here, at home, alongside businesses and people we know, work with and genuinely admire.

Almost 20 years in the community. First ever website. 🥹

Deniliquin Mens Shed has been doing its thing since the 00s, but unless you already knew someone involved, you might not have known much about what actually happens inside.

Some thought it was somewhere you took furniture to be fixed. Others weren’t even sure if you could just… turn up.

So when Graham and the committee came to us about building their first website, the job was pretty simple: help more people understand what the Shed is actually here for.

We built them a one-page website with everything someone needs to know before walking through the door, and set up a proper Google & Facebook Business Page so they’re easier to find online too.

Nothing they don’t need. Something they can easily manage.

And because they’re a volunteer-run charity, we’re hosting the website in-kind.
