That’s Day 1 wrapped at Learners Research Week 🎉

Loads of great conversations, lots of merch moved, and some good fun and games at the Lyssna booth already.

If you’re here this week, come say hi at booth C+6 👋

Here’s what’s happening:
🧠 Daily Research Jams with Joe
🎁 Plenty of free “it depends” merch
🎯 Our research-themed game: Can you trust your gut?

POV: your Research Week prep turns into an IKEA challenge 🪑😂

We’ve officially landed in San Fran for and kicked things off with some unexpected team-building.

Tristan, Claire, and Luke took on the very serious task of building our booth furniture… there were only a few “where does this screw go?” moments.

If you’re at Research Week this week, come say hi 👋
And yes, compliments on the furniture are highly encouraged 😉

You’re ready to launch your research study.

But there’s a problem.

You still don’t know how many participants you need.

Joe walks through our new Sample Size Calculator and shows how to quickly establish a solid baseline, so you’re not guessing, over-recruiting, or underpowering your study.

It’s practical. It’s straightforward. And it might save you from a lot of second-guessing.

How many micro-tweaks does the average designer make before pushing a home page live? 👇

We don’t have an official stat, but our own home page refresh? Somewhere in the hundreds.

Whatever number you’re thinking, the real question isn’t how many times you changed it – it’s whether the final version is actually landing with your audience.

Joe Formica’s latest Research Playbooks episode shows you how to find out. Link in bio.

ICYMI – Joe Formica recently ran a workshop on why research often falls short 👀

It usually comes down to one thing: how we design our questions.

He highlights three traps to watch for:
→ Misleading metrics
→ Make-believe questions
→ Safe subjectivity

Let’s take misleading metrics 👇

A result like “3.5 out of 5” might look fine on the surface. But when you bring that into a stakeholder meeting, will your results spark debate instead of direction. The issue might not be the data – it’s the question.

Joe unpacks this (and the other two traps) in the full session.

What’s one of the biggest research challenges you’re facing in 2026?

For many, it’s AI – and not in the way you might expect.

In our live panel, Mateja Milosavljevic, Nikki Anderson, and Julian Della Mattia kept coming back to the same tension: when AI is part of your workflow, it can subtly influence how your research takes shape.

And when it’s always ready with an answer – and steering toward one:
👉 It gets harder to tell what’s your thinking and what’s the tool’s
👉 Ethical lines start to blur
👉 Confidence erodes before you notice it’s gone

The takeaway isn’t to step away from AI, it’s to stay actively involved in the thinking.

“How many participants do we actually need?”

It’s one of the most common questions in research and one of the hardest to answer with confidence.

You’ll hear everything from “five users is enough” to “you need hundreds.” And when stakeholders ask you to justify your choice, “it depends” isn’t always satisfying.

That's why we built a sample size calculator. It helps you move from guesswork to a number you can explain and defend, giving you the confidence to make informed decisions about your research.

When five ideas seem equally good, how do you pick the one that actually makes an impact?

In this first episode of our newest series, Research Playbooks, we break down a practical, repeatable way to pressure-test ideas with real users, before you commit resources to building them.

Plus, there’s a free template included too, so you can apply it to your own backlog straight away.

When evaluating leaders in a competitive market, it pays to look at what customers are saying.

is a global leader in international money transfers and currency conversion.
is a fast-growing contender in the same space.

In online reviews, Wise was being noted as having “hidden” international transfer fees.

So we put both brands head-to-head to find out users’ experiences when considering both options.

We ran a live website test, with the following task:
- Send $500 from the US to Spain.
- Find the true total cost (fees + exchange rate).
- Stop when you feel confident.

🔎 Here’s what we found → SWIPE

Just to note: this study is directional rather than conclusive. Additional research – with more participants or a different focus – could reveal deeper or even contradictory findings.

Research is rarely one-and-done. It’s how we build confidence over time.

You didn’t get into research to talk about revenue.
But buy-in often depends on it.

In this live panel, Lyssna CEO Matt is joined by Nikki Anderson and Julian Della Mattia to unpack the biggest challenges researchers are facing right now.

One key topic of conversation 👉 how researchers can connect human impact with business priorities, without losing the heart of the work.
