A new analysis from Specops Software examined 800 million compromised credentials — and the findings should make every business owner pause.

Hundreds of thousands of those passwords contained seasonal and holiday-themed words.

Think "Winter2024!", "Christmas123", or "NewYear@2025".

It gets worse: Many of these predictable passwords were created during end-of-year reset cycles — the exact time when IT departments push mandatory password changes.

Why "creative" variations don't help:

You might think "W!nt3r2024" is clever. Attackers don't.

Modern password cracking tools run through vast dictionaries and apply predictable substitutions automatically. Swapping "i" for "1" or adding "!" at the end?

That's the first thing they try.

What feels unique to you is just another pattern to an algorithm.

The real risk for businesses:

Attackers actively track seasonal password trends → Q4 and January see peak credential stuffing attacks → One breached personal account can expose your entire enterprise (thanks to password reuse)

What to do instead:

✅ Move your team to a password manager — most people juggle 100+ logins, and memorable themes feel convenient but are dangerous

✅ Use a password generator for truly random strings

✅ Eliminate mandatory periodic resets (they actually encourage these weak patterns)

✅ Implement MFA as a safety net

The convenience of "Summer2024!" isn't worth the breach that follows.
