How long should a computer last?

A quality computer that's looked after can often last 6–8 years or more.
Regular updates. A healthy hard drive. A little maintenance. These things all add up.

If your computer feels slow, it doesn't automatically mean it's time to replace it.
Sometimes it just needs a bit of attention, get in touch to see how we can help.

We’ve been seeing a rise in fake Australia Post messages.

They usually say things like:
• “Your parcel is on hold”
• “Delivery failed”
• “Pay a redelivery fee”

Then they include a link. If you’re not expecting a parcel, be cautious. Australia Post will not ask you to click suspicious links to release a package.

When in doubt, go directly to the official website instead of clicking links in messages.

Keyboard looking a little grubby? A clean keyboard is a happy keyboard!

A soft microfibre cloth and a little compressed air can work wonders.
Just remember:
- Turn the computer off first (or disconnect it)
- Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the keyboard.
- And don't use harsh household cleaners.

A quick clean every few weeks helps keep everything looking and feeling better.

If your computer stopped working today...
Would your family photos still exist somewhere else?
It's something most people don't think about until it's too late.
An external hard drive or cloud backup can save years of memories.
If you haven't backed up your important files recently, this weekend is a great time to do it.

After testing it, we found the main issue was an ageing hard drive.

❓Did You Know?

Many of us simply close the laptop lid at the end of the day.
That puts it to sleep, not necessarily through a full restart.

Restarting your computer every week or so helps install updates, refresh memory and can solve a surprising number of little issues.

It's one of the easiest things you can do to keep your computer running well.

❓❓ Should I repair or replace my computer?

This is probably the question we're asked most often.

The answer? It depends on three things.
• How old is the computer?
• What's actually wrong with it?
• What do you use it for?

Sometimes a $150 upgrade gives you another 3–4 years.
Sometimes it's simply not worth spending money on an ageing machine.
We'll always explain your options before any work begins. No pressure. No confusing jargon. Just honest advice.

🚨 We've had several customers over the years receive phone calls from people claiming to be "Microsoft Support."
They'll often say:"Your computer has been hacked." or "It has a virus." or "We need remote access."

It's a scam. Microsoft doesn't cold-call people to fix computers.
If someone unexpectedly asks for remote access to your PC, be cautious.
If you're ever unsure, ask someone you trust before clicking anything or giving anyone access.

💻 Is your computer taking forever to start?

One of the biggest myths we hear is:
"It's old, I need a new one."

That's not always true.
Many older computers can be given a new lease on life with an SSD upgrade, some extra memory, or a general clean-up.

We've seen computers that took over 5 minutes to start reduced to under 30 seconds.

Before spending thousands on a replacement, it's worth finding out whether a repair or upgrade is the smarter option. We're always happy to give honest advice, even if that advice is that you're better off buying a new one.
