Today is Earth Day 🌏

This year the focus is: Invest in our planet.

The impact of climate change continues to be relentless, across the globe.

The impact of fires, floods, and extreme weather events are impacting people, communities, and economies. We need to invest in our planet by understanding our changing climates so that we can create the change needed to deliver better outcomes.

Attentis and SAS Software are delivering solutions across a range of industries and communities to measure fine-scale change.

Our intelligent networks monitor, measure and highlight the effects of climate change, incorporating fire ignition, flood monitoring and prediction, air quality, soil, and environmental health, to provide a clear, concise picture of a local environment.

Attentis multi-sensors are now equipped with AI-embedded SAS® IoT analytics so that we, for the first time, can identify conditions and environmental factors and respond immediately, while continuing to measure and monitor live environmental conditions to aid situational awareness.

This technology supports real-world resilience and response to climate change, providing the tools for emergency services, industries and communities to make better, faster, and more informed decisions that protect citizens, property, and natural resources.

As so aptly stated by Peter Drucker, “if you can’t measure it you can’t understand it, if you can’t understand it, you can’t change it.”

We don’t need to imagine this or wait a year for it to be developed – the technology already exists and is operating in several communities throughout Australia – see real-time data and monitoring in the Latrobe Valley at www.LVIN.org.

Attentis environmental sensors are powered by solar and battery backup and provide emergency services, businesses, energy companies, mining corporations, farmers, and residents with a continuous stream of information on fire, flood, air quality, and microclimate weather conditions via a dedicated website and app.

Early detection and rapid response are critical to bushfire management. Our technology provides that.

Advancements in satellites, drones and AI are driving big changes in firefighting. Experts say a system that can detect bushfires anywhere in Australia within one minute of ignition is just around the corner.

Today, we reflect on the events of this time twelve years ago when 173 people tragically lost their lives in the 2009 fires. As our communities have forever changed, the loss will never be forgotten nor will the bravery of our firefighters.

Great article from Mike Cheney in The Wall Street Journal, acknowledging the efforts we have made to deliver community resilience through information in the Latrobe Valley via LVIN.org.

Recognised by the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements and the NSW Independent Bushfire Inquiry as an “early win for the government” we look forward to constructing further bushfire, air quality and information networks to support other communities, nationally and internationally.

As a new fire season begins in Australia, researchers are looking to rely more on technology—and less on people in towers with binoculars—to spot blazes quickly and better predict their path.

We know that there needs to be a better warning system for smoke, heat, and other hazards linked to the more extreme climate conditions being experienced today so that all Australians have the information they need to make informed decisions about their safety.

That's why we developed the award-winning Attentis Information Network (AIN), an environmental sensor network currently operating in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria that does exactly that - LVIN.org.

The next step for Attentis Information Network is a broader rollout that will provide a smart local integrated technology solution that provides real-time information on weather, air quality, and fire detection. AIN will really make a difference. The Latrobe Valley has been proven and the next step is a rollout that is supported by Government and Industry. It's ready to go and assist Australian communities to make informed decisions.

Respiratory admissions to emergency departments increased by 70 per cent in some areas during last summer's deadly bushfires, a new Grattan Institute climate change report reveals.

At 5.33pm on Friday 23rd October, one of our sensors that forms part of the Latrobe Valley Information Network (LVIN.org) sent an alert notification after detecting abnormally high readings of PM1 and PM2.5 - indicating the presence of smoke.

The sensor located at Rifle Range Road in Glengarry North, a dirt access road used to access the surrounding pine tree plantations, was installed to provide 24-hour unmanned monitoring of this high fire risk location. This particular sensor provides 24-hour weather, air quality monitoring, fire detection, thermal and visual imaging of the plantation.

Investigation of the alert revealed smoke was visible on the sensor cameras and the downloadable time-lapse video revealed the extent of the ignition adjacent to the plantation.

Emergency services and the plantation owners were notified of the ignition and rapidly investigated the cause.

The 24-hour unmanned detection, notification, and investigation capability of our sensors in the Latrobe Valley provides community confidence. A small fire event like this, coupled with night and high wind conditions and its proximity to a plantation could have resulted in a fire in the plantation, threatening the neighbouring community.

We are proud in the knowledge that our technology continues to keep the Latrobe Valley community safe. We strive to deliver this level of confidence to other communities.
