Wow, just wow! About the worst catastrophe that can happen has happened. A bug in antivirus software is causing computers around the world to bluescreen and continuously reboot.
If you have CrowdStriike (a leading antivirus product) on your computers then you are in for it.

Initial thoughts on this one make it a nightmare for IT to remedy.
As the computers can't log into Windows, they aren't 'online' so pushing a patch to update and fix the issue is not possible.
Rebooting in safe mode may be difficult for many corporate users, as Bitlocker Drive encryption will want a decryption key, and the user account likely won't have the administrative access required to fix the issue....

Nasty nasty.

If you've got your antivirus from IN2Tech then you're OK - we use Sentinel One, a competitor to CrowdStrike, so you can relax.

Why Patch Management has to form part of your defensive IT strategy.

What is Patch Management as a service?
Patch Management as a service is a cloud-based solution that automates the process of patching your operating systems and applications. Patching is the act of applying updates or fixes to software to improve its functionality, performance, or security.

Why is Patch Management as a service important?
Patch Management is important for several reasons:
- It reduces the risk of cyberattacks.
- By using a patch management service, you can ensure that your systems are always patched with the latest security updates, protecting your organization from cyber threats.
- It improves the performance and reliability of your systems.
- It saves you time and resources. Patching can be a tedious and time-consuming task, especially if you have to manage multiple systems and applications across different locations.

How does Patch Management as a service work?
The Patch Management service connects to your systems and applications and monitors them for available patches. It then downloads and installs the patches automatically, or according to a schedule.

What are the benefits of Patch Management as a service?
Windows Patch Management as a service offers many benefits for your organization, such as:
- Increased security and compliance. PMaaS helps you keep your systems and applications secure and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
- Reduces the risk of data breaches, fines, and lawsuits due to unpatched vulnerabilities.
- Enhanced performance and productivity. Windows PMaaS helps you improve the functionality and efficiency of your systems and applications and avoid downtime or disruptions.
- Reduced cost and complexity.

Conclusion
Patch Management is a valuable solution for your organization that can help you keep your systems and applications secure and up-to-date.
It reduces the risk of cyberattacks, improves the performance and reliability of your systems and applications, and saves time and resources.

Quick fixes for serious issues!
I turned my system on at 7am this morning yet the computer tells me its been on for 20 hours. We get calls for assistance each day where Outlook isn't opening or similar, and the client has already rebooted but when we check the uptime it says its been on for many days. Doing a forced restart is the fix (a lot of the time) and here is how you do it...

First, close all your applications (documents/outlook/web browsers etc)
Now, press the Windows Key and the 'R' key to launch the RUN window.
Type: shutdown -r -f -t 01
Click the OK button.
This send a command to Shutdown the computer and restart (-r) with a force closure of all services (-f) in 1 second (-t 01).

When the computer comes back up, if you hit CNTRL+Shift+Esc and select the performance tab, your Up time should now be around the 2 minute mark.

So a quick command to force a restart can save you a lot of time and frustration if odd things are happening.

We are seeing some odd things happening with Office 365 licences causing a failure to send or receive emails this week.

What we've found is that in the Apps section of the licensing, the Exchange Online (Plan 1) component is not selected. This is for the mailbox part of the subscription and is why emails are failing to be sent/received. Ticking the Exchange Online (Plan 1) box and saving the change restores access. Note that the mailbox has to be activated in the backend and this will take anywhere from 3 minutes to 40 minutes.

Cause is unknown and appears random with a single user of a domain being affected whilst others are fine.

If your email is with us, just call the office and we'll sort it out
