💻🤖 AI Laptops Are Here, But Do You Really Need One?

Thinking about buying a new laptop this Black Friday? 🛒

With AI-powered laptops becoming more popular, you might be wondering whether your current laptop is already outdated.

Here's something worth knowing 👇

✅ You don't need an AI laptop to use ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot.

✅ For everyday browsing, emails, banking and Office work, your current laptop may still be perfectly fine.

✅ An SSD or RAM upgrade could give your older laptop a noticeable speed boost without spending thousands on a new one.

✅ AI laptops can be worthwhile for certain creative tasks, on-device AI features and demanding workloads.

At Local Geeks, we believe in helping you make the right decision, not spending money on technology you don't actually need.

💻 Wondering why a RAM or SSD upgrade costs more than it used to?

Demand for memory chips has risen sharply in 2026, partly because of the growth of AI data centres. That’s affecting the price and availability of parts used in everyday laptops and PCs.

A higher upgrade quote doesn’t always mean you need a new computer, though. And if your computer is slow, buying more RAM might not fix the actual problem.

At Local Geeks, we can check what’s causing the slowdown and help you decide whether a repair, upgrade or replacement makes sense.

🚨 That scary "VIRUS DETECTED" pop-up might be the scam itself.

Fake virus warnings are designed to create panic. They may claim your computer has been hacked, your personal information is at risk, or that you need to call "Microsoft Support" immediately.

Before you do anything:

✅ Don’t call the phone number on the pop-up
✅ Don’t click "Fix Now" or similar buttons
✅ Don’t allow anyone remote access to your computer
✅ Close the browser or restart your computer if necessary
✅ If you already interacted with the warning, get your computer checked by someone you trust

Scammers rely on urgency. Taking a few minutes to stop and verify what you’re seeing could save you from losing money, passwords, or personal information.
