Last week, our designer Andrew joined a portfolio review for third-year visual communication students, spending an afternoon talking through their work and where they want to take their careers.
Andrew noticed that students understand the role of a designer has changed and continues to change. They prioritise breadth over specialisation, thinking alongside making, and show desire to create things that are tangible. Where previous generations of designers built careers around a single discipline, these students are moving across all of it - strategy, digital, photography, print, motion.
The role is broader than it has ever been.
