Who’s actually driving you? 🚘

When you book a chauffeur or airport transfer, you’re trusting someone with your safety, your time and often your family. That trust should rest on more than a nice car and a friendly smile.

Accredited operators are licensed by the state transport regulator. That means vetted drivers with police and working-with-children checks, vehicles inspected and insured for commercial passenger work, and a complaints process backed by law. Cash-in-hand drivers and unaccredited “mates with a car” carry none of that, and if something goes wrong, you carry the risk.

At Drivision we hold hire car accreditation in both the ACT and NSW, and every driver on our network meets the same standard. Sometimes the feedback that means the most doesn't come as a compliment.

A client got in touch this week — she'd been charged for a child seat that wasn't in the car. Fair enough. We refunded the fare in full, same day.

But here's the part that stuck with me. When I apologised and told her I'd be looking into it, she wrote straight back asking me not to be hard on the driver. The driver had been outstanding. She'd been planning to email us and say so.

We hold our drivers to four things: Professionalism, Communication, Service and Integrity. On this job we got one of them beautifully right and missed the others — and we'll fix that internally, properly and fairly.

To the client: thank you. For telling us when we got it wrong, and for going out of your way to tell us who got it right.

If you pay us for something, it should be in the car. Simple as that.

We get asked for a lot of long-distance runs. Canberra to Melbourne. Sydney and back in a day. Coastal trips, regional weddings, interstate funerals.

We’re happy to do them. But there’s one thing we won’t do, and it’s worth explaining why.

We won’t send a chauffeur straight back down the highway after a full day’s driving.

The trip out is the easy half — everyone’s fresh and on schedule. It’s the trip home that gets people. Hours of driving, a long day of waiting on someone else’s timetable, then a night drive on a country road. That’s where fatigue catches drivers out, and it doesn’t give you any warning first.

So on our ultra-long-distance jobs we build in a proper rest break, an overnight stay, or a second driver for the run home. It costs a bit more. It also means our driver gets home to his family, you get home to yours, and so does everyone else on that road.
