Most business leaders know they need to improve their cybersecurity. The problem isn't awareness. It's that the decision keeps getting deferred.

More quotes to get. Another webinar to attend. More options to compare. And whilst that research continues, real costs quietly accumulate (not to mention the dust on the audits you've had done).

Cyber insurance premiums are rising year on year, and businesses without demonstrated security maturity pay significantly more. More tenders now require security certifications, and without them, you're not even shortlisted. Leadership time spent researching without deciding has an opportunity cost too. If your team has spent 10 hours a month for six months without reaching a decision, that's $12,000 in time with nothing to show for it.

The hardest part to accept is that inaction isn't a neutral position. Every month of delay has a price - it just doesn't show up on an invoice.

If you've been stuck in this cycle, we've written a blog post that breaks down exactly what cybersecurity decision paralysis is costing your business, and what could actually stop the pattern.

Ask most business leaders if cybersecurity is important. They'll say yes.

Ask them what they're specifically working on and why? That's where the certainty usually fades.

Awareness of cybersecurity risk is no longer the problem for most Australian SMEs. The gap is what comes next: making confident, informed decisions about what to actually do.

Without a clear framework or expert guidance, most businesses fall into the same cycle. Something triggers concern, such as a client questionnaire or an insurance renewal, so they research, implement something that feels urgent, and briefly feel like the problem is handled. Six months later, another trigger arrives and they realise they're back to square one.

There's also a distinction worth understanding between operational security and strategic security. Your IT support keeps your environment running securely day to day. But knowing which controls to prioritise, building evidence for certifications, and demonstrating maturity to insurers and clients, that's a different capability, and most businesses are missing it.

Frameworks like Essential Eight help, but they tell you what good security looks like, not how to get there from where you are now.

We talk to clients every week about using automation and AI to solve business problems.

So when we spotted a longstanding bottleneck in our own recruitment process, we figured we'd better do something about it.

Our Digital Solutions team built an AI-powered screening tool using Microsoft Power Automate - using the same tools and approach we bring to client engagements. It went from idea to live in under a day.

The result wasn't just saving time through a better recruitment process. It's a proof of concept that any business managing high-volume, repeatable tasks can learn from.

Because the technology isn't the hard part. The hard part is deciding to make the time.

We've written it up into a case study so you can check out the full story here šŸ‘‡

Non-profits, if you could wave a magic wand over your organisation, what would you improve first? Would you streamline operations? Greater impact per dollar? Less time on manual tasks?

Every organisation has processes that slow things down — reporting cycles, administrative tasks, volunteer coordination, and service delivery workflows that consume valuable time and resources.

AI tools like Microsoft Copilot are helping non-profits address these operational bottlenecks systematically, redirecting capacity toward mission-critical work.

Many non-profit leaders are exploring how AI fits into their operations. The key insight? You don't need deep technical expertise to begin realising value.

šŸ Capacity creation: Automation redirects team energy from administrative overhead to mission delivery
šŸ Measurable returns: The ROI timeline for well-implemented AI tools is often shorter than expected

Want to see how non-profits are applying Copilot strategically? Explore "Five smart ways non-profits are using Copilot to advance their mission" - Link will be shared in the comments below.

Is your business actually ready for AI?

Many SMEs we talk to are eager to roll out Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools. But there’s one big gap we see again and again: no one’s stopping to check if their business is truly set up to benefit.

You don’t need a 50-page AI strategy. You just need to get three fundamentals right:

1ļøāƒ£ Is your data AI‑ready?
If critical information is stuck on local drives or in filing cabinets, AI can’t help you. Your data must be accessible, up to date, and properly governed.

2ļøāƒ£ Is your technology foundation stable?
You don’t necessarily need cutting-edge infrastructure, but you do need a secure, well-managed Microsoft 365 environment so you can experiment safely without introducing new risk.

3ļøāƒ£ Can your people actually adopt AI?
Technology is only half the equation. Your team needs time to learn, as well as realistic expectations of what AI can (and can’t) do, and a culture that supports experimentation.

Get these Copilot readiness fundamentals right and you’ll be able to learn, adapt, and get real value from AI. Get them wrong, and you risk wasting time and money on tools that never deliver.

We’ve put together a practical post for Australian SMEs that unpacks these three questions and how to tackle them.

What Our Clients Say!

"I just... stopped fighting with my printer," says satisfied client, weeping with relief. "It prints now. On the FIRST try. I don't know who I am anymore."

"I found a file," reports another client, voice shaking. "From 2019. In under 30 seconds. I'm not okay."

Actual documented side effects of working with GRIT:

⚔Printer obedience (previously thought impossible)
⚔Knowing where literally anything is stored, thankyou SharePoint
⚔Casually dropping "cyber protocols" into conversations like a BOSS
⚔Automating things, you didn't even know could be automated
⚔Understanding Microsoft Teams (yes, ALL of it)
⚔Becoming that person who sighs knowingly when others complain about IT
⚔Dangerous levels of confidence about "AI" and "the cloud"
⚔Passive aggressive competence at industry events

WARNING: May result in uncontrollable urges to fix other people's tech problems at BBQs.

2026: The year you become absolutely FERAL about your IT infrastructure.

What Our Clients Say! – The Queensland Christmas Edition šŸŽ„

"They made our systems so efficient, I had time to knit a jumper for the office Christmas show.

Fearing it clashed with my vibe, I’ve regifted it for Dave, our CEO for his Secret Santa present.

Nothing says, 'holiday spirit' like reindeers and wool on a 40-degree scorcher ā˜€ļø

Who knew, peak productivity leaves plenty of time for seriously questionable fashion choices and strategic re-gifting? 😜 "
