Starting with the April 2026 security update, the Remote Desktop Connection app displays new security warnings when you open RDP files. Recently, a client asked us to review our Remote Managed Services contract against another provider to check whether they were paying market rates.

At first glance, the other provider looked cheaper.

But once we dug into the detail, the story changed.

Here’s what wasn’t included with the cheaper option:

>Support was delivered via an offshore helpdesk

>User setups and removals were charged separately

>Additional staff devices attracted extra fees

>Firewalls, switches, wireless access points and printers were all excluded from management

>Third‑party software vendor support wasn’t included

>And there was a 36‑month lock‑in contract

The takeaway?

You can’t judge Managed Services by the headline price alone.

What looks cheaper on paper upfront can quickly cost your business more in the long run once exclusions, add‑ons and rigid contracts come into play.

🚨 Cybersecurity Reality Check for Small Businesses

We were recently introduced to a new customer who had fallen victim to a targeted ransomware attack. After speaking with him, it became clear that IT had never been a major priority for the business.

Here’s what we uncovered:

• Backups existed — but were never checked or tested.

• Former staff accounts had never been offboarded.

• No MFA protecting critical services.

• No device management or identity controls in place.

These are the kinds of gaps cybercriminals love.

💡 The lesson? Investing in a trusted MSP isn’t a cost — it’s protection. Prevention will always be cheaper, easier, and less stressful than remediation after an attack.
