Medical practice data hacked after third-party vendor breach, then sold online.

In a recent exclusive article, by David Hollingworth from Cyber Daily, a major healthcare data exposure has come to light and the point of entry wasn't where many would expect.

The compromise reportedly occurred via a third-party platform, not Ochre Health’s core systems. A threat actor claimed access to data linked to 25,000+ patients, later offering it for sale on a hacking forum. The post has since been removed which strongly suggests the data has already been sold and is now circulating.

The exposed information allegedly includes highly sensitive records such as names, contact details, Medicare and DVA numbers, appointment, and billing data.

This is a timely reminder for healthcare providers and business leaders that cyber risk doesn’t sit in one place it includes every system, supplier, and platform connected to your IT environment.

It’s these external connections where vulnerabilities emerge.

AI is rapidly changing the way phishing and scams are executed.

In a recent article by PCMag Australia, written by Alan Henry, PMP (Managing Editor, Security), the growing role of AI in cybercrime means more convincing scams and faster, more scalable attacks. This isn’t new risk it’s has just been amplified.

Phishing attempts are becoming more personalised, harder to detect, and more effective, increasing the chances of human error and business exposure. For Australian businesses, this reinforces a critical shift, that cyber security is no longer just about technology controls it’s about awareness, processes, and preparedness across the business.

A Brisbane accounting firm has confirmed a cyber incident following a ransomware claim.

In a recent article written by David Hollingworth from Cyberdaily: The Cybersecurity Daily News, the firm reportedly experienced unauthorised access to its network, with sensitive data potentially exposed, including client financial records and internal documents.

For accounting and professional services firms, incidents like this are not just about system access. They can involve highly confidential financial and client data, and the responsibility that comes with protecting it. Cyber security is no longer a one-off consideration. It’s part of maintaining a well-managed, reliable business environment.

Microsoft 365 users targeted in new phishing attack trend.

In a recent article written by David Hollingworth, Deputy Editor at Cyber Daily, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) has warned of a growing “device code phishing” campaign targeting Microsoft 365 environments where attackers don’t steal passwords or MFA codes, but instead trick users into approving access themselves.

Attackers are now using AI and automation to generate real-time login codes, making these attacks faster, more convincing, and far more effective.

This marks a shift in cyber threats moving away from breaking in, to being let in through user trust. What does this mean for businesses?

MFA alone is no longer enough. Identity-based attacks are evolving rapidly, making user awareness and policy-based controls critical to reducing risk.

Cyber security isn’t just about technology it’s about people, process, and behaviour.

Cyber security often works quietly in the background protecting your business in ways that aren’t always visible day to day. A single control can do more than you might expect.

It can:
✓ Help prevent unauthorised access
✓ Reduce the risk of fraud
✓ Minimise the impact of simple mistakes
✓ Reduce human error
✓ Help support compliance requirements
✓ Strengthen recovery after an incident

Good cyber security isn’t just about blocking attacks it’s about building layers of protection that quietly reduce risk across your entire business.

ASIC has sent a clear message following Friday's cyber security announcement.

Don’t wait until everything feels clear. Act now.

AI is accelerating the threat landscape and the response comes back to making sure the essentials are in place and working as they should:

• Who has access to what
• Systems being kept up to date
• Staff knowing what to look for
• Visibility over where the data sits
• Backups that can be relied on

AI may be new. The risks around poorly managed IT aren't.

On , it’s worth recognising that stronger access doesn’t just rely on systems it starts with everyday habits.

Across businesses, how passwords are created and managed day‑to‑day can have a broader impact than expected. Passphrases are becoming a more practical way to manage access. Using longer, more unpredictable combinations of words can make a meaningful difference without adding complexity.

Small shifts like this don’t just improve individual security. Over time, they help raise the overall standard across teams and systems.

At Harvey Norman Technology for Business, we work with businesses to manage their IT environments and support practices that help keep systems and data protected as part of everyday operations.

There’s a cost to cybercrime that most businesses never plan for.

In a recent Fortune article, John Swanciger, owner of a small family‑run business, shares how a ransomware incident cost his company more than $100,000 even though no ransom was paid.

The disruption, recovery work, specialist support and downtime all added up. His experience reflects a much bigger picture: fraud, scams and ransomware are estimated to cost small businesses $131 billion a year.

At Harvey Norman Technology for Business, we support businesses to protect their data, stay protected, and keeping their teams to keep working without disruption.

Good cyber security isn’t about fear or complexity it’s about reducing risk and protecting the business you’ve worked hard to build.

15 million patient records exposed - Are you prepared?

A major cyberattack in France has exposed the personal data of 15 million patients, including highly sensitive medical information and doctors' notes.

According to an article by Daniel Croft at Cyberdaily: The Cybersecurity Daily News, the attack affected 1,500 doctors using medical software. Incidents like this raise a common question for business owners: are you prepared when it happens to you?

The message is becoming clearer.......
Healthcare, finance, and professional service sectors remain prime targets for cyber attacks. Not because they’re large, but because their data is extremely valuable.
