MYTH BUSTER - "It's only a PDF."
Over the years, I've seen organisations and businesses invest thousands of dollars into their branding, websites and marketing, to then send out a proposal, annual report or brochure that looks like it hasn't been updated since the early 2000s.
And I get it.
There is no denying Word and Publisher got the job done - back in the day. Afterall most of us have created a flyer, proposal or report in one of them - whether at high school or at work.
But client and customers expectations have changed.
That document might be the very first thing someone sees from you. It could be an incredibly business dependant document like a funding submission, sponsorship proposal, capability statement, annual report or promotional flyer.
And let's be honest. Most of us make a judgement on a document almost immediately - just like we do with websites and socials.
If its cluttered, difficult to read or doesn't reflect your branding, we've already checked out. We don't even get to the content and we've already decided how much effort we're willing to put in.
A well-designed document isn't about making things look pretty. It's about presenting the information in an easier to read, easier to understand and easier to remember way.
I've worked on everything from annual reports and strategic plans to fundraising appeals, newsletters, sponsorship proposals and business profiles, and one thing is for sure: presenting your business services or products deserves professional presentation.
Because sometimes the difference between a document being read and ignored comes down to those first few seconds.
I love updating and creating work that give life to old and tired documents - its one of my favourite parts of the job.
If you look back on the last few email attachments you have sent or promotional items you have printed and know they could be better please reach out. You will make my day!
