Telstra says its network is being affected by a large-scale outage across southern New South Wales.

Thousands of Telstra customers between Nowra and Eden, and as far inland as Bombala, are without internet and phone coverage following an incident at an exchange site.

Crews are en route to north Nowra to investigate the issue, which is affecting 99 other base stations across southern NSW.

A Telstra spokesperson said the widespread outage, which began at 1.45pm, was caused by an onsite power issue, but power had since been restored.

Telstra Satellite Messaging is now available to eligible customers on iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 (all models).

Starting today, iPhone users with a compatible device and eligible plan will be able to send and receive text messages via satellite from some of Australia’s hardest-to-reach places.

To access Telstra Satellite Messaging, you’ll need:

A compatible mobile device
The latest software update
To be on a Telstra Upfront Mobile plan (or equivalent Business mobile plan)

The device is a Samsung Galaxy S25 series device that has been updated with the latest software.

Not a Samsung Galaxy S25 series user? Telstra Satellite Messaging will be rolled out to more devices and we will keep customers updated on our website as this happens.

From today, we’re rolling out Telstra Satellite Messaging - Australia’s first satellite to mobile text messaging product, available for consumer and small business customers on Telstra month-to-month mobile plans with a device from the Samsung Galaxy S25 series family.
