Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta now hold US$1.46 trillion in property, plants, and equipment. That is up 140 per cent in three years.
Amazon alone owns more physical assets than Saudi Aramco. Combined 2026 capex could reach US$760 billion. Depreciation last quarter was US$44 billion, nearly a third of operating profit.
Two implications for Australian enterprises.
Cloud pricing will reflect this weight. Per-instance costs and storage tiers will move to cover depreciation. Review your commitments and reserved capacity before renewal.
The discipline these companies now enforce on asset tracking, depreciation, and utilisation is exactly what asset-heavy Australian businesses need. Fleet operators, print and imaging suppliers, equipment lessors, manufacturers with capitalised machinery.
If you cannot say what each asset earned last month, you cannot defend what it is worth this month.

Alphabet raised AU$5.5 billion in Sydney last week. First time Google's parent has borrowed in our currency. Investors bid AU$18 billion, more than three times what was on offer.
Global tech is borrowing offshore because AI infrastructure spend (over US$730 billion this year) exceeds what US bond markets can absorb cheaply. Kangaroo bond issuance is on track for AU$60 billion this year, up 40 per cent.
Two implications for Australian enterprises.
Competition for institutional debt capital in Australia will tighten. Business lending pricing may feel it over the next twelve months.
The AI infrastructure being built with this capital is what your cloud services will run on for the next decade. What you pay for Microsoft, Google, and AWS in 2027 and beyond is being financed right now.

Google is moving all Pixel manufacturing out of China by 2027. Vietnam and India take over. Samsung has already done it. Apple has not.
For Australian businesses sourcing hardware or components from Asia, the supplier map is being redrawn. Vietnam, India, Malaysia and Mexico are absorbing what used to be China-only production.
If you rely on a single supplier or single country, review that assumption before EOFY. Supplier concentration risk is now real.
If your purchase orders, inventory, and accounts sit in separate systems, adding new suppliers is where those systems break. Manual rekeying is where errors and delays compound.
The cost of a supply chain shift lands on operations and finance for the next twelve months, not on the negotiating table.
