About 5,000 Dropbox accounts were breached last month, with files viewed and downloaded on fewer than a third of them.
The entry point was a legacy sign-in path. Dropbox accounts can be accessed using a Lenovo ID, and an issue in Lenovo's email verification process allowed attackers to register Lenovo IDs against Dropbox users' email addresses, including users who had never created one. Unauthorised access ran 4-21 August. None of the compromised accounts had MFA enabled.
Two implications for Australian businesses:
1. Audit every third-party sign-in path into your systems, including legacy integrations nobody deliberately enabled.
2. Enforce MFA across every account. An attacker goes for the weakest door on the building.
This breach came through a door nobody remembered building.

A Japanese retail robot has started restocking shelves at a grocery store in Queens, New York.

The Armo One, built by Tokyo startup Muse, carries up to 100kg of stock and navigates obstacles. Staff summon it via app, pre-loaded from the back room. Roughly 20% of restocking time is spent transporting goods, and that is the slice it takes back.

The commercial model matters as much as the machine. Subscription pricing starts as low as $1-2 per hour per unit, with setup being a store layout scan. The US physical AI market is projected to grow from ~$300 million in 2026 to ~$2.7 billion by 2031.

19 Japanese airports have formed a consortium, led by Sumitomo, to build a shared AI platform for infrastructure inspection. Narita, Kansai and regional hubs including Hiroshima are all in.
The pressure behind it: foreign visitors hit a record ~43 million last year, with a target of 60 million by 2030. Combined Narita and Haneda slots are set to rise from 830,000 to 1 million a year.
Autonomous vehicles photograph runways to detect cracks and foreign objects at roughly 90% accuracy in testing. Drones inspect lights and elevated equipment. The system could cut inspection hours by up to 50%.
Two implications for Australian operators:
1. Pooled data across sites surfaces anomalies that single-site data misses.
2. Once inspection becomes a data feed, maintenance schedules off the exceptions.

OpenAI has rated its new Astra model a "critical" cyber risk, the first time it has applied that rating in its own internal framework.
Testing found the model could devise and execute novel attacks against hard targets with limited human input. It compromised web browser sandboxes to run commands on the host machine, and found vulnerabilities in a hardened operating system.
The release is being staged: capability limits on the public version, full power to a small set of testers, additional refusal training, and monitoring that scans agent reasoning and halts potentially dangerous actions.
Two implications for Australian businesses:
1. The browser is an attack surface in its own right. That is where this model got its foothold.
2. Ask your software vendors what stops an agent that starts acting on its own.
Capability is arriving faster than the controls around it.
