This is an example of another exciting activity for the kids at Kairi State School and is fundamental in learning and understanding radio waves and antennas.
Stu VK4SDD runs a 50min session on Thursdays for the 5/6 Enrichment class with the goal being a foundation qualification and the skills and knowledge to be able to operate in the worlds largest amateur radio contest, the CQ Worldwide SSB Contest held in October.

Wanted: HF radio operators who can make some contacts with the Grade 5 and 6 Enrichment Class at Kairi State School.

Next Thursday 30th July between 1020 and 1110 local time, Stu Vkfoursdd will be on air with the kids showing them how to make contacts and teaching them on-air skills.
The plan is to make contacts on 40m as it’s proven locally but other bands can be used for stations further away if required.

All that’s asked is for 5 minutes of your time to let them know they’re being heard and where from as lately it has been very quiet on the bands during the practical part of the class.

Exact Frequency is yet to be determined but let’s assume somewhere around 7.120MHz. Listen out for VK4KSS calling CQ.

Every amateur radio operator should visit this place at least once!

Just outside Hobart, the Grote Reber Museum at the University of Tasmania's Mt Pleasant Radio Observatory tells the story of the man who became known as the Father of Radio Astronomy.

Many amateurs may not realise that Grote Reber was also a licensed radio amateur, and during his years in Tasmania he gave several presentations to the WIA Tasmanian Division – Southern Branch, inspiring generations of VK7 operators with his passion for experimentation and discovery.

The museum features Reber's original radio shack, historic radio equipment, fascinating exhibits on the radio spectrum and a guided tour of the famous 26-metre radio telescope.

Visits are by appointment only , so plan ahead if you're travelling to Tasmania.

Thanks for the appreciation post Far North Endurance Riders. Our appreciation is for the members of both our and your clubs for all the effort that goes into making each event run smoothly.
The distances that some folks travel to sit in the bush and play radio or navigate a horse through hilly boggy and hot conditions is to be commended.

Stations along the east coast of VK will be able to listen in to the downlink for the upcoming ARISS - Amateur Radio on the International Space Station contact

All you’ll need is a handheld and a small yagi for best results.

Put the frequency 145.800MHz into your rigs and keep an ear out.
