The Clayfield-Toombul RSL 2026 ANZAC Day badge tells a very specific story.
Front and centre is the giggle hat. The Australian bush hat worn throughout the Vietnam War and well beyond it. No face, no rank, no name. Just the hat.
If you know, you know.
That hat became part of the identity in Vietnam. Worn in the field, shaped by the conditions, recognised across generations. It’s not ceremonial. It’s practical. It’s real soldiering.
The photo on the backing card is of Private Kenneth John Meredith. Brisbane born, serving with 6RAR in Vietnam. Seen here in the field, wearing the same hat, carrying the same load. It connects the symbol on the badge to a real soldier, a real story.
That is why it sits at the centre of this year’s badge. “Remembering Vietnam” is clear and deliberate. It puts the focus back on those who served, many of whom carried that service quietly for years after coming home.
When you wear this badge, you are not just marking the day. You are recognising a group of veterans who deserve to be seen, understood, and remembered properly.
Take a moment when you pin it on.
Think about who that hat represents for you this year.
