A reminder for anyone working in the field this wet season.

Working in North Queensland means dealing with plenty of mud, wet ground and difficult conditions. But there’s a risk that doesn’t always get talked about enough melioidosis.

Melioidosis is a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection caused by bacteria found in soil and water. Following heavy rain and flooding, the risk can increase as bacteria are brought to the surface.

For those of us working in civil construction, hydrovac, utilities and other outdoor industries, it’s worth taking a few extra precautions:
✔️ Wear suitable waterproof boots, gloves and protective clothing.
✔️ Cover cuts, grazes and broken skin with waterproof dressings.
✔️ Wash thoroughly after contact with muddy soil or water.
✔️ Take care when using high-pressure hoses around mud, as contaminated droplets can be inhaled.
✔️ If you become unwell after potential exposure, tell your doctor about your work and seek medical advice promptly.
It’s easy to focus on the job in front of us and forget about the risks we can’t see. Taking a few minutes to protect yourself could make a real difference.

Small crew. Big pipeline. No signs of slowing down. 💪

It’s amazing what a tight-knit three-man crew, backed by a couple of our trusty casual ring-ins, admin and safety staff behind the scenes can get done when everyone’s pulling in the same direction.

The ViperVac team is absolutely smashing it at the moment. We’re booked out pretty much every day, with a huge pipeline of work heading right through to Christmas and beyond. New contracts are being awarded, more work is coming through, and we’re continuing to build momentum with no signs of slowing down.

The best part? We’re doing it with a small, hands-on team, keeping the business lean and organic, and still delivering on a level we’re bloody proud of.

The directors are still out in the field day in, day out, getting their hands dirty alongside the crew. We’re not sitting back watching from the sidelines. We’re in there doing the work, backing the team and making sure the jobs get done.
And yes, we’re absolutely buggered! 😂 But it’s a good problem to have when you look back at what this team has achieved.

A massive shout-out to the boys in this photo and our casual guys and admin staff who couldn’t be there for the snap. Every bit of effort counts, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

We’ve secured some major contracts, built a serious pipeline and continued to grow without losing sight of who we are or how we want to run this business.

Come Christmas, we’ll be ready for a well-earned breather, a good feed and a few cold beers on us. 🍻 It’ll be our chance to say a proper thank you to the team for the effort they’ve put in this year.
It’s been an absolute killer year for Viper Vac Solutions, and we’re only getting started.
Small team. Big effort. Quality work. And a whole lot more to come.

🐍 WEEKLY SAFETY TOPIC SNAKES (VIDEO BIG BROWN SNAKE OUT WEST OFF THE CARMICHAEL MINE ACCESS ROAD WAS A BIG BU**ER)

With the nature of the work we do, snakes are something our crews need to be aware of particularly at this time of year.

We’re regularly working around pits, pipes, conduits, drains and other tight spaces where snakes and other wildlife can seek shelter. We’re also spending plenty of time working out in the bush, and over the past month we’ve seen a massive increase in snake activity across our jobs.
A simple reminder to all our crews and anyone working in similar environments:

• Be vigilant when working around long grass, bushland and concealed areas.
• Don’t put your hands into pits, pipes, conduits or other tight spaces without checking first.
• Take a moment to look before reaching, lifting or moving materials.
• Keep your work area tidy and avoid creating places for wildlife to hide.
• Make sure your crew knows what to do if a snake is encountered.
• Most importantly don’t take unnecessary risks trying to handle or remove a snake.

We also make sure our trucks and crews carry appropriate snake bite first-aid equipment, because being prepared is just as important as identifying the hazard.
Snake activity is part of working in the environments we operate in, but a little awareness can go a long way.
Stay alert. Stay safe. Look before you reach. 🐍

Nice little quick, cruisy one to finish off the afternoon after a massive day.
This one here, we core bored and installed 50mm conduit running into a newly installed P5 plastic pit, allowing us to house the NBN joint outside of the manhole and keep everything up to standard.
We had to run a 22.5° bend to get around the existing 35mm and 100mm services coming out of the manhole. This gave us enough room to install the new house pit without having to sit it over the top of the existing network.
Nice little job to finish off the afternoon. 👌🏼
