We have lift off! 🚀

Kingston Community School are the state champions of the South Australian Kids in Space competition, one of only 13 schools selected to take part.

Years 3 and 4 students explored the issue of space debris and its impact on spacecraft systems. Working in teams, they researched, brainstormed and used design software to create and print a “Dusty” cleaning and repair robot concept.

Students are now looking forward to the national final in November at the Australian Space Agency, where they will have the opportunity to meet astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg.🪐

Recently we held the Professional Learning Days for our CITB South Australia Careers Under Construction and Building Communities programs at the Adelaide Careers & Employment Expo.

These programs are run in collaboration with the Construction and Industry Training Boards (CITB) SA and offered to both primary and secondary schools. Participating teachers had the opportunity to explore the expo and make connections with industry figures during the Learning Days. The primary program group completed a construction-related design project and the secondary project group completed industry site visits.

Both of these programs aim to increase student awareness of the opportunities and skills needed in the building and construction industry. The primary school program focuses on developing STEM competencies and building positive attitudes towards the building and construction industry, whilst the secondary school project looks at educating students on job pathways into the industry.

CITB is a whole-of-industry led organisation that provides support to attract, train and retain South Australian building and construction workers by providing leadership in training and skills development.

Participants will now guide their students through a construction-themed project and demonstrate these projects in our student showcases later this year.
