We don’t really have the words.

How do you say goodbye to someone who has been such a huge part of Blend for so long?

The woman who never needed an excuse for a morning tea, cake or a citrus tart. Who ate Arnott’s Lemon Crisps and called it “lunch”, or put pretzels in a cup of soup and called them “croutons”. The big Christmas earrings. The potty mouth. The “climbing” heels. The laughs. And, of course, the pranks. Glad-wrapping someone’s entire desk and everything on it? Yep. Writing a prank letter telling someone they had to wear full PPE during COVID? Absolutely.

But underneath all of that was a boss who always had our backs. She was always there for everyone and genuinely cared. She gave everyone her time, no matter who they were or when they knocked on her door, and would go above and beyond to support them.

She led us through COVID, NDIS changes, the buyout from Minda to Bedford, Bedford going into administration and the transition to The Disability Trust (now Meridia). Through all of it, she kept showing up for us.

She didn’t just run Blend. She helped make us who we are today. She turned us into Blend Creative, fought for what made us different, trademarked our socially inclusive design logo, built a network of incredible people and connections around us, and always believed in what we do.

It’s hard to imagine Blend without her. The studio will never quite feel the same. But what she has built, the people she has supported and the mark she has left on Blend will be here forever.

That’s her legacy.

Now it’s our turn to carry it forward. To live up to her vision of what the future of Blend looks like, keep building on everything she has created, and hopefully make her proud.

We’re going to miss her more than we can put into words.

Thank you for everything, MQ. For believing in us, fighting for us, laughing with us, feeding us and occasionally helping us cause absolute chaos.

We love you, and will bloody miss you. 💜

R U OK?

It's a question we ask because people matter. But at Blend, we think there's another question worth asking: do people feel like they matter?

Because there's a difference between asking someone if they're okay and creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, respected and genuinely part of something.

At Blend, we know this firsthand. We are Australia's only socially inclusive graphic design studio, bringing professional graphic design and inclusive employment together every day. Our team includes talented designers with disability who work alongside their colleagues, contribute to real commercial projects and create work for real clients.

They're not our clients. They're not a program. They're not an add-on. They're our colleagues. They're designers. They're part of our team.

That's why R U OK? Day means something to us. Wellbeing isn't just about asking a question once a year. It's about the culture you create around people. It's about whether someone feels safe enough to say, “I'm not okay” – and whether, when they do, someone actually listens and does something.

We believe good work comes from people who are given the opportunity to do good work. People who are trusted, supported and given room to learn, grow, contribute and belong. That's what we're proud of.

Because yes, we make great design. But we're also proving something bigger: inclusive employment isn't about lowering the bar. It's about opening the door. It's about recognising talent, creating opportunities and building workplaces where everyone has the chance to be valued for what they bring.

So this R U OK? Day, ask the question. And if the answer is no, don't rush to fix it. Listen. Stay. Check in again. Make sure they know they matter.

Because that's what Blend is all about.

The Blend Creative and Bedford Group SALA Festival exhibition is now open! 🙌

Last week, we celebrated with a wonderful afternoon bringing together creativity, community and the incredible talents of our artists.

The exhibition launch began with a beautiful Acknowledgement of Country by our very own Donna, followed by a heartfelt and inspiring speech from Katrine Hildyard MP.

A huge thank you to:

· Equal Opportunity SA Acting Commissioner Kara Wiseman for attending;
· The Bowden Print Group, our print partner, who always goes above and beyond;
· Soren and the amazing Bedford Central Cafe team for the delicious catering; and
· Conservation SA for hosting us in such a fantastic venue.
