The owner says no. His son, who's about to take over, says "we need to buy this."
A generation that grew up on screens doesn't need convincing that a tablet in the cab makes sense. They just want to see the numbers.
More and more, that's how the decision gets made: not top-down, but the next generation pushing it through.

Management sees it on paper. Signs off. Six months later the system is still in the box.
The hesitation we hear most from owners isn't the price – it's "I bought this before and the crews never used it."
Lance from SITECH Intermountain has one rule for that: if it's not out of the box, either it's not working or nobody was trained properly. Nothing else.

First reaction from a confident operator when tech shows up in his cab: "Are you watching me?"
Second reaction, once he's seen what it does: "That's just icing on the cake."
It's not there to check on the crew. It's an extra tool with an extra benefit – and the operators who get it are usually the first to defend it.

Gigabytes of data sitting on a laptop. All anyone needed was one stockpile quantity.

You know how it goes: the drone goes up, the site gets flown, and suddenly one project carries more data than the office can work through.

The data showed up. The people to handle it didn't.

We've been saying stakes would disappear from the jobsite for years. Walk a site today — they're still there.

Where we didn't agree on this one: whether stakeout stays a manual job, or whether it gets handled autonomously sooner than most people expect.

Where we did agree: the surveyor isn't going anywhere. The role is moving toward owning the data — making sure everything is structured, as-built and findable the day someone asks.
