🎉 Yesterday was the CNCF Graz Meetup, and our tech lead Christian Haintz gave a talk about how to set up an AWS EKS Cluster with Karpenter and Pulumi using just one single command! This is important because developing web applications is just one side of the coin 🪙; you also need to operate them in a way that fits your requirements and the users' demands. 💡

🔍 Considering containerization for hosting your web application? No?!? You definitely should! Here are key points containers can provide:

- 🔮 A predictable environment for your web application
- 📝 A unified and simple way to describe that environment
- 🔢 Version control for your environment
- 🔄 Easy updates between defined versions without interference from old artifacts
- 🏗️ Consistent environments across multiple instances (no "snowflakes")
- 🔗 Simple sharing and running of environments
- 💻 Ability to run production-like environments locally for development
- 📈 Simple horizontal scalability
- 🔒 Enhanced isolation for improved security and flexibility

While these benefits can be achieved without containerization, technologies like Docker, Docker Compose, or Kubernetes often make it simpler and more manageable.

🚀 Deploying Your First Web App? Don't Forget These Crucial Steps! 🖥️

1️⃣ Disable Caching of index.html
Ensure your users always get the latest version of your app, not an outdated cached one.

2️⃣ Implement a Reload Mechanism
Point 1 helps when a user freshly browses to your app. But for long-running apps that users typically rarely close (for example services like Gmail, Google Docs, timetracker, …), we also need to make sure to get them the latest frontend (SPA) to give them the best experience AND to stay compatible with the backend API. So we need to implement a mechanism that checks the frontend version against the backend version and, if the frontend falls behind, offer a "reload" or make the app automatically reload depending on your UX strategy.
