Discussions about AI in engineering often focus on automation: what systems can do, which tasks they can absorb, and how much time can be saved.

In chip design, agentic AI goes beyond the automation of individual tasks and fundamentally changes the division of labor between humans and machines.

As more ex*****on moves into autonomous workflows, the engineer’s focus shifts toward defining objectives, guiding decisions, evaluating tradeoffs, and determining whether an outcome is ready to move forward.

See how agentic AI shifts engineers from ex*****on to orchestration, judgment, and higher-value decision-making.

For much of the semiconductor industry's history, the foundations of competitive advantage were straightforward: larger teams, better tools, more compute, and more efficient processes.

As agentic AI systems take on a greater share of the work, two new differentiators are emerging. The first is the expertise those systems can draw upon. The second is how effectively that knowledge can be applied across the full chip design flow.

Delivering that combination is difficult. It requires deep domain expertise embedded in the platform as well as usable knowledge from the organizations that deploy it.

Learn why domain expertise and company knowledge are becoming critical advantages for agentic AI in semiconductor design.

AI has already improved productivity across many engineering tasks, helping teams optimize results, accelerate work, and reduce friction in complex workflows.

A different kind of capability is now emerging: agentic systems that can execute engineering workflows against defined goals and constraints.

This is the foundation of autonomous engineering.

Discover how agentic AI is evolving from assistance to autonomous engineering with goal-directed workflows across chip design.

The potential power of quantum computing has been demonstrated, but commercial viability is widely assumed to hinge on unrealized thresholds. More qubits. Lower error rates. Fault-tolerant machines.

But what if useful applications exist today?

New research from Synopsys and IonQ suggests they do. Even without error-corrected hardware, a quantum processor can take on one costly step inside an engineering simulation while classical systems handle the rest. The gains are confined to that operation, not the entire workflow, but they deliver a measurable improvement in simulations engineers run every day.

Explore quantum computing commercialization through hybrid workflows that delivered up to 14.6% end-to-end FEA gains on large industrial models.

AI is reshaping the world. Is education keeping pace?

In a thought-provoking interview with 1in.am TV, Synopsys CTO & Fellow and Synopsys Armenia President Dr. Yervant Zorian shares his perspective on the future of education, the lessons revealed by Armenia's first PISA assessment, and the urgent need to develop the critical thinking and technological skills required in the era of artificial intelligence.

As the initiator of the STEP.ai High School Program, Dr. Zorian discusses how integrating AI, Python programming, machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics into education can empower students to become creators of technology, not just users of it.

Sponsored by the Synopsys Foundation, the STEP.ai program is developed by the Synopsys Armenia Educational Department and is implemented in partnership with UEICT, Armenian Virtual College - AGBU, and the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports ՀՀ կրթության, գիտության, մշակույթի և սպորտի նախարարություն.

The semiconductor industry has always advanced by pushing limits: smaller geometries, higher performance, lower power, and greater integration, often all at once.

But today, a different kind of limit is coming into focus: engineering capacity.

Modern chip development is one of the most complex engineering efforts in the world. A leading-edge design can require hundreds or even thousands of engineers and a year or more of development before it is ready for manufacturing.

At the same time, market expectations are not slowing down. In many segments, companies are expected to deliver new generations of advanced silicon on an annual release schedule, despite rising complexity and a growing shortage of skilled engineers.

There are only so many specialists who can navigate the full complexity of modern chip design. These are not roles that can be filled quickly or generalized easily. They require years of experience, practical intuition, and deep expertise across design, verification, implementation, and analysis.

This has created a fundamental mismatch. The industry is being asked to deliver more sophisticated chips, in less time, without a comparable expansion in engineering capacity.

Rising chip complexity is outpacing engineering capacity. Learn why agentic AI may be key to scaling semiconductor innovation.

Physical AI is one of the hardest engineering problems the technology industry has faced.

Autonomous vehicles, industrial robots, delivery drones, surgical assistants, and humanoids have to sense the physical world, make decisions in real time, and act on them safely — all while meeting tight power, performance, and cost targets.

Among the many engineering challenges this presents, two are especially important: integration and functional safety.

Physical AI systems combine compute, AI models, sensors, actuators, mechanical and structural hardware, operating systems, middleware, cloud services, and applications, all of which have to work together as a single system. Today, much of that technology is developed and validated in isolation, placing the time, cost, and engineering burden of integration on Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs.

Functional safety raises the bar further. A machine that moves through the physical world and acts on its own decisions must do so predictably, even when conditions are dynamic and unpredictable. That requirement reaches into every layer of the system, changing how each one is designed, verified, and validated.

Because these challenges are beyond the reach of any single company, technology leaders are working together to simplify integration, strengthen functional safety, and accelerate the design and development of physical AI systems.

Learn how Synopsys and Arm Total Design help accelerate Physical AI systems with pre-validated IP, virtual development, and system-level design.

AI compute is growing far faster than the energy systems that power it. Electrical grids, data center capacity, and cooling systems can’t scale at the same 4–5× annual pace as AI.

Leaders from Microsoft, Samsung, UCLA, and MatX recently discussed what this mismatch between energy and compute means for the design of AI chips, systems, and tools. Speaking at Synopsys Converge 2026, the panelists described how wringing more useful intelligence out of every watt has become a full‑stack challenge.

“The whole AI stack sits on a bedrock of energy,” said Shankar Krishnamoorthy, chief product development officer at Synopsys and moderator of the panel. “And that’s the layer that’s moving the slowest.”

Learn how industry leaders are improving AI energy efficiency through full-stack co-design, advanced packaging, and AI-driven chip design.

Earlier this month, Synopsys Armenia was honored to host H.E. Joseph Nzabamwita, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda, and members of his delegation at our Yerevan office. Building on the visit of Rwanda's Minister of ICT and Innovation, Yves Iradukunda, last year, the meeting provided another valuable opportunity to showcase Armenia's strengths in microelectronics, innovation, and engineering education.

During the visit, we shared Armenia's longstanding achievements in microelectronics and highlighted Synopsys Armenia's contributions to the development of the country's high-tech ecosystem, engineering talent, and educational programs.

We were pleased to discuss the role of the International Microelectronics Olympiad in inspiring and empowering the next generation of innovators and look forward to welcoming a finalist from Rwanda to Yerevan this November for the 21st Olympiad.

We thank Ambassador Nzabamwita for his visit and valuable interest in Armenia's technology and innovation journey.
