What is NFC technology?

NFC stands for “near field communication.” NFC has its roots in another technology, called radio frequency identification (RFID), which was patented by Charles Walton in 1983. Using RFID tags, Walton was able to “label” specific radio waves, making it easy to send and track data through short-distance wireless communication.

From there, Walton and other developers continued to refine the RFID frequency process, and in 2003, NFC technology was approved as an ISO standard. By 2011, the first NFC mobile apps were being introduced on smartphones. According to a recent study by Juniper Research, contactless payments accounted for $1 trillion in transactions in 2018, and payments from NFC apps and wearable devices will surpass $15 billion in value.

What is a QR code and how to make a payment using a QR code?

QR is an abbreviation of Quick Response. The technology was developed by a Japanese company in the 1990s. Initially, QR codes were used in the automotive industry mainly for production, tracking, and shipping.

The difference between QR code and barcode

The main difference between traditional barcodes and QR codes is that it is not possible to read the barcode from the screen, it can only be scanned from the paper. QR codes can be read from almost any type of texture.

Some examples of how to make a financial transaction using QR codes

After choosing products in the store, a client can pay the bill by simply scanning the QR code sticker by the phone with the QR reader application. The Merchant can see the completed transaction within seconds.
The reverse option is also possible when the Merchant scans the client's QR code generated by the payment application on the smartphone.
App-to-app transactions are also widely used. In this process, both the sender and the recipient open their applications. The sender then scans the unique QR code that is generated in the recipient’s application. The sender confirms the amount to be paid and taps to complete the payment.
