Strategy is more than just PowerPoint slides promising instant transformation!
It is incredibly easy to draft and approve a new vision in a few weeks. However, the ultimate illusion is expecting an organization to realign and restructure itself by the next quarter.
We often fall into the trap of trying to compensate for limited time, weak systems, and missing capabilities through sheer “enthusiasm” for change. When timelines stop making sense, we simply push teams to run faster and try harder.
But enthusiasm alone will not magically create:
• Extra headcount or ready resources.
• Effective, working operational systems.
• Capabilities that were missing in the first place.
• The time needed to build competence and skills.
A mature strategy process doesn’t just stop at setting the plan; it questions its “feasibility”: Does the organizational structure actually have the systems, skills, and time to absorb this transformation? A vision can be brilliant, yet entirely unrealistic in its timeline.
