EDUCATION IS A DEVELOPMENT PRIORITY FOR WARD 11
Ward 11 Councillor’s Office Engages Hwange District Education Leadership
14 September 2026 | 14:00–15:00
The future of Ward 11 is being shaped in our schools today.
The Office of the Ward 11 Councillor today held a constructive engagement with Mr L.H. Matshazi, Hwange District Schools Inspector, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration around education, learner development and academic performance in Ward 11.
The engagement was led by Cllr George Mhlanga, Ward 11 Councillor, together with Mr Austine Tshuma, Secretary for Education in the Ward 11 Councillor’s Office, and Mr F. Moyo, Schools Inspector.
STRENGTHENING EDUCATION THROUGH COLLABORATION
The meeting provided an important platform for the Ward Office and District Education authorities to engage on the educational landscape in Ward 11 and explore areas where stronger collaboration can contribute towards better outcomes for learners.
Among the key areas discussed were:
- Strengthening collaboration between the Ward 11 Office and District Education authorities;
- Supporting education programmes and initiatives within Ward 11;
- Exploring ways to contribute towards improved learner performance and academic outcomes;
- Strengthening support for schools, educators and learners; and
- Ensuring that education remains firmly positioned within the broader development agenda of Ward 11.
Mr Matshazi welcomed the engagement and acknowledged the efforts being made by the Ward 11 Councillor’s Office in supporting education-related programmes and initiatives.
He expressed his support for continued collaboration between the District Education Office and the Ward 11 Office, recognising the value of coordinated engagement in addressing educational priorities within the community.
SIX SCHOOLS. ONE SHARED FUTURE.
Ward 11 is served by six schools:
1. Shalom Primary School
2. Grace Mission Primary School
3. Grace Mission Secondary School
4. Kings Primary School
5. St Josephine Bakhita Primary School
6. Lulu Secondary School
These schools represent more than places of learning.
They are where the future of Ward 11 is being prepared.
Every classroom represents an opportunity. Every learner represents potential. Every educator plays a role in shaping the next generation.
For this reason, the Ward 11 Councillor’s Office believes that education must be treated as a core development priority alongside the broader social, economic and infrastructure needs of the Ward.
FROM ENGAGEMENT TO ACTION
Effective community development requires more than identifying challenges. It requires bringing the right institutions and stakeholders together, establishing constructive relationships and continuously pursuing practical opportunities for improvement.
The Ward 11 Councillor’s Office will continue engaging relevant education authorities, schools, educators, parents, community organisations and other stakeholders to better understand the needs of learners and schools and identify opportunities for meaningful support.
The objective is clear:
Better collaboration.
Stronger educational support.
Improved learner outcomes.
Greater opportunities for the young people of Ward 11.
The Office recognises that educational transformation is not achieved through a single meeting or intervention. It requires consistency, partnership and sustained commitment.
That work must therefore continue.
INVESTING IN THE NEXT GENERATION
The development of Ward 11 cannot be measured only by infrastructure and basic services.
It must also be measured by the quality of opportunities we create for our children and young people.
A child who receives a quality education today is better positioned to become tomorrow’s professional, entrepreneur, skilled worker, community leader, innovator or contributor to the local economy.
When we invest in education, we invest in the future of Ward 11.
The Office of the Ward 11 Councillor remains committed to building constructive partnerships that place the interests of learners and the broader community at the centre of its engagement with stakeholders.
THE FUTURE OF WARD 11 STARTS WITH OUR CHILDREN.
