MARONDERA DELIVERS DIGNIFIED TRADING SPACES IN LINE WITH GOVT DIRECTIVE

MARONDERA - The Municipality of Marondera has unveiled a newly constructed marketplace and bus rank to accommodate vendors who were operating in undesignated areas, in response to Government's directive on vendor relocation.

The directive, issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, calls on all local authorities to move illegal street traders into approved, designated trading spaces without harassment.

The new bus rank will service the southern and western routes of Marondera town, a move expected to decongest the main terminus and improve traffic flow.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, described the initiative as a landmark of dignity, order and cleanliness.

He said the development will boost confidence among vendors and SMEs by providing a secure trading base with proper sanitation, in line with Government's inclusive development agenda.

Marondera Mayor, Cllr Chengetai Murowa, dedicated the marketplace to ratepayers and small-to-medium enterprises, saying the project signifies Council's commitment to facilitating growth and innovation.

Vendors and transport operators welcomed the development, saying it will improve their working conditions and bring sanity to the town.

PSC BOOSTS CIVIL SERVANTS' MOBILITY WITH FOUR NEW BUSES FOR MASH EAST

MARONDERA - Government, through the Public Service Commission (PSC), on Tuesday handed over four new buses to ease transport challenges for civil servants in Mashonaland East Province.

The fleet, comprising three 36-seater buses and one 46-seater, was issued as part of efforts to provide reliable and affordable transport for Government workers. The buses will ply the Macheke-Marondera and Chitungwiza-Marondera routes, while the other two will service Chikomba and Mutoko districts.

The vehicles form part of the 55 buses commissioned by Vice President Kembo Mohadi in early September 2026 during the PSC Conference in Mutare.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing punctuality, cutting commuting costs for civil servants and improving public service delivery across both urban and rural districts, in line with Government's drive to improve conditions of service and accelerate Vision 2030.

MARONDERA HOSTS PEDP 2 CONSULTATION TO DRIVE VISION 2030

MARONDERA - The Government has convened the Mashonaland East Provincial Economic Development Plan 2 (PEDP 2) Consultative Workshop in Marondera, in a push to align provincial growth with national development targets.

The week-long indaba, which started this Monday, drew a high-powered delegation that includes Deputy Minister of Mines Caleb Makwiranzou, Mashonaland East legislators, Acting Chief Director in the Office of the President and Cabinet Mr Charles Mujajati, District Development Coordinators, CEOs of local authorities, Council Chairpersons, Provincial Heads of Government departments, NGOs, tourism players, the business community and traditional leadership led by Chief Nechombo, Chief Chikwaka and Chief Svosve.

Officially opening the workshop, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, described the engagement as a critical milestone that should translate policy into tangible results for the ordinary person in the village.

He said the consultation is timely as it follows the launch of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2) by His Excellency President Dr Emmerson D. Mnangagwa on 27 November 2025. The NDS 2, which runs from 2026 to 2030, is the country's economic blueprint towards attaining Vision 2030.

The workshop seeks to craft an inclusive and results-driven Provincial Economic Development Plan that aligns Mashonaland East's priorities with NDS 2.

CHIVHAYO CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY WITH NEW HOUSE UNVEILING IN MARONDERA

MARONDERA - Prominent farmer and businessman Hebert Kudakwashe Chivhayo yesterday celebrated his 63rd birthday with a double celebration that also served as a housewarming for his new upmarket residence in Lendyville.

Chivhayo, a highly respected farmer in Mashonaland East Province, took family and friends on a guided tour of his newly completed state-of-the-art house, exquisitely finished with modern architectural designs, expansive glass windows and contemporary interior fittings.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Chivhayo, who specialises in to***co and maize production, urged fellow business people to invest in urban properties. He credited the Second Republic under President Emmerson Mnangagwa for introducing flexible policies that have enabled entrepreneurs like himself to excel in agriculture, industry and commerce.

Reflecting on his milestone birthday, Chivhayo said it marked a turning point in his life towards deeper spirituality.

"It is a turning point in my life that I should be inclining more towards my religious side as a way to appreciate the Lord for the long life He has gifted me," he said.

His celebrations began with a mini apostolic church service and prayer, where he donned white garments in honour of his faith.

Chivhayo, who is father to multi-millionaire businessman Wicknell Chivhayo, also dismissed rumours that his son neglects his family.

"The philanthropic nature of Wicknell that you see out there begins at home. Trust me when I tell you that we are sorted as a family," he said, beaming with pride over his son's generosity to the extended family.

The sentiments were echoed by Justice Chivhayo, who also attended the festivities and confirmed Wicknell's unwavering support for the family. As part of his birthday gifts, Wicknell and fellow family members gifted him a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and US$63,000 - representing US$1,000 for each year lived.

The glamorous event was attended by Marondera's business elite and was spiced up by a powerful line-up of musicians who kept guests entertained well into the night, in a fitting celebration of a life of hard work, faith and family values.

TRADITIONAL LEADERS KEY IN PRESERVING CULTURE, AS MINISTER NDUDZO URGES SMART AGRICULTURE AHEAD OF EL NINO

HWEDZA - Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East, Honourable Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, today addressed traditional leaders during the Mashonaland East Traditional Leaders Day held at Chief Ruzane Homestead in Wedza.

This year's commemorations are running under the theme, "Preserving our cultural heritage for nation building towards sustainable development."

Hon. Ndudzo said traditional leaders remain the custodians of culture, values and heritage, and play a critical role in uniting communities and driving development.

He urged traditional leaders to encourage their communities to adopt smart agriculture practices in the wake of the forthcoming El Nino.

The Minister advised farmers to plant early maturing and drought-resistant varieties, practice Pfumvudza/Intwasa and diversify into small grains to ensure food security.

He said Government recognizes the role of traditional leadership in nation building and called on chiefs to continue safeguarding cultural identity while promoting peace and development.8

MINISTER NDUDZO COMMISSIONS 3 SCHOOLS IN SEKE DISTRICT

MASH EAST Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo today (16 September 2026) commissioned three schools in Seke District under Manyame Rural District Council.

He opened a new ECD block at Materera Primary School (940 learners), a school and hall at Shining Smiles Primary School (850 learners), and a full boarding facility at Bright Daisies High School.

The Minister said "the projects prove that partnership between Government, Council and private players is delivering quality education".

MINISTER NDUDZO WARNS AGAINST CHILD MARRIAGES AND ADOLESCENT PREGNANCIES

Seke District - The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Province, Honourable Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, has spoken strongly against child marriages and adolescent pregnancies at Seke Materera Primary School.

Hon. Ndudzo was speaking during the commissioning of a new classroom block at the school.

He gave a stern warning to paedophiles and discouraged archaic behaviours on child marriages by some churches, saying such practices have no place in modern society.

The Minister said government has launched the 'NOT IN MY VILLAGE' Campaign to assist in curbing child marriages, adolescent pregnancies, Drug and substance misuse and other forms of child abuse.

He said the campaign seeks to empower traditional leaders, parents, teachers and communities to protect children and report cases of abuse.

Hon. Ndudzo said government remains committed to protecting the girl child and ensuring that every child has access to education in a safe environment.
