Stolen Vehicle Recovered Near Beitbridge, Zimbabwean National Arrested
A joint anti-smuggling operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and its security partners has resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle worth approximately R600,000 and the arrest of a 44-year-old Zimbabwean national near the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
According to Limpopo SAPS, the operation was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, 21 July 2026, by the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Investigation Unit in the Makhado policing area.
The operation was supported by Limpopo Tactical, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, Tracker Connect, Makhado Defendum and Elti Security Makhado.
Police said they received information that a vehicle stolen in Gauteng was being driven towards the Beitbridge Port of Entry with the intention of being smuggled out of South Africa.
Officers set up surveillance along the N1 North in the Makhado policing area, where they spotted the suspected vehicle. When police attempted to stop the driver, he allegedly sped off, triggering a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when police successfully forced the vehicle to a stop.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport valued at approximately R600,000, had been reported stolen in the Krugersdorp policing area on Friday, 17 July 2026.
The driver, a 44-year-old Zimbabwean national, was arrested at the scene.
Police said investigations are continuing as they work to determine whether the suspect is linked to a broader vehicle smuggling network operating across the border
